PTO INFORMATION

PTO Meeting
Thursday, April 6th

 6:30 p.m.
MCE Library

MCE PTO - What it is, and how YOU can get involved! The Maize Central PTO board has been working hard the past two years to breathe new life into how Parents and Teachers connect at MCE.  From spirit wear and spirit nights at restaurants to Jingle Mingle and Movie Night, we have worked hard to raise money for our classroom grants and create an opportunity to have fun with other MCE families!

Come join Mr. Jennings, Mrs. Merseal, Mrs. Meister, and the PTO board for a quick look at our vision for the future. We will share ideas, gather feedback, and recruit volunteers to help make our 2017-2018 school year better than ever! The more we work together, the more we can give back to the fabulous staff at MCE!

It is time to look ahead to next year!

LUNCH MONEY
USD 266 uses the Skyward Food Service and RevTrak fee payment systems. Please check your email and phone numbers in Skyward, so you may be alerted when your child only has 2 lunches left. Parents receive an email when your child has $5.00 left in their account. Parents receive a second email after your child has 1 lunch left. When your child doesn't have any money into the account-we have your child go to the office and call you. Please put money into the account that day. You will also receive a 3rd email when your child has a zero balance.

Please check with your child if they are eating breakfast at school or getting a second milk, the charges add up quickly. If you have more than one child, please check both lunch accounts. We are not allowed to go into one child's account to pay for a sibling.

Parents may keep as large a balance as they wish in a child's account (for example: $5.00, $10.00, $15.00 or more). If the student doesn't have enough in his/her lunch account to cover a meal, the account will be charged for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk if the student chooses to take one. No meal charges will be allowed.
If you have any questions regarding Skyward and the RevTrak system, please call our school office. We want every child to have a good lunch, every day!

CAPTURING KIDS' HEARTS

        by
Ashley Proehl (3rd Grade)
A large component of the Capturing Kids' Hearts program focuses on teaching and modeling good communication skills.  There is so much more to communication than the words that we say!  In fact, only 7% of a person's message is communicated with words.  The majority of a person's communication is body language, at 55%.  The remaining 38% is communicated through tone of voice. We teach students to effectively communicate using the "SOLER method," S-Square up, O-Open posture, L- Lean in, E-eye contact, R-respond.  The SOLER method is modeled in teacher communication with students and other staff members, and is taught in many different ways. These skills will help students in their professional and personal lives as they grow older.

KANSAS STATE ASSESSMENT TESTING
Test taking

State Assessment Testing Dates:

March 28-March 30
5th Grade Science Assessments

April 3-6
3rd-5th Grade English/Language Arts Assessments

April 10-13
3rd-5th Grade Math Assessments

With Kansas State Assessments right around the corner, parents are encouraged to discuss test taking strategies with your child.  Encourage your child to do his/her best!
  • Get plenty of rest the week of the tests.  You've been working hard all year learning the standards.  Don't blow it by staying up too late the night before your tests.
  • The morning of the test:  Did you know that you think better with a full stomach?  Make sure you eat breakfast the morning of the test.
  • Attendance is important!  Parents, please check with your child's teacher for exact testing dates for your child.  Please try not to schedule appointments during testing dates. State Assessments:  All Kansas State Assessments will be administered online.
  • Be smart!  Use good testing strategies!  During the assessments be sure to use your online tools (highlighter, striker) and use your scratch paper to show your work.  Before reading the stories, read the questions FIRST, and remember you can use the manipulatives provided for the math assessment!  Success comes with strategies!
  • Be Positive!!  Those tricky problems can knock you off balance.  Take your time, slow down and think.  Don't get worried or frustrated.  Read the question as many times as you need to understand what it is asking.  Then try to solve it in the best way you know how.  Keep a positive attitude during the test.  Everyone has worked on their learning this year.  You can do great on the Kansas State Assessments!
  • I'm finished!  Not so fast--when you complete the last item on the test, remember that you are not finished yet.  Review your answers, making sure that you didn't make any careless mistakes (such as putting the right answer in the wrong place or skipping a question).
NOTIFICATION BY PARENTS
It is always best to make arrangements before your child comes to school. Students are not allowed to call home for a note.

Please send a note signed by the paren t or guard ian if there will be a change in plans on how your child will be getting home after school. Your child will be expected to ride the bus if that is the normal way of transportation without a signed note. This is the PREFERRED method of communication.

If you are unable or forgot to send a note and you wish to pick up your child, you may email the teacher before 12:00 p.m. Please copy the secretaries to help ensure your child will receive the message. Teachers have been instructed to reply to your email. If you don't receive a response, the teacher likely did not receive the message.

If you were unable to send a note or email the classroom teacher, you may call the school and leave a message for student pick up by pressing 5.  Please leave your child's name, teacher's name and the change in transportation.  Please be advised that messages will NOT be retrieved after 3:00 p.m. and your child will be expected to follow normal procedures.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
