Raul Midón’s new album, Bad Ass and Blind, will debut the same week as his concert at Reston Community Center. The album promises to be a smash hit and lucky people at the CenterStage will be among Raul’s first live audiences for the music. Reflecting on the explorations and references to music past and present in Bad Ass and Blind, Midón says: “Like with all my records, this album is for listeners with open ears, open minds, and open hearts.” Raul has been selected to take his music and positive message to South Lakes High School and Langston Hughes Middle School as one of our annual Artists in Residence. Paul Douglas Michnewicz has been RCC's Arts and Events Director since 2012. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama and is one of the founders and former Artistic Director of Theater Alliance.
Midón's upcoming album Bad Ass and Blind (March 2017) – the title a description of its maker that soul icon Bill Withers endorsed – finds the artist expanding his range compositionally, tapping into the linear modal harmony explored by such jazz composers as Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter.
