Ordination (continued)
For those who were unable to attend Erik’s ordination to the diaconate on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the closing Eucharist of the Diocesan Convention at the Cathedral of St. John in Knoxville, TN -- it was a magnificent occasion with a packed church and a throng of ecstatic Episcopalians from Grace and other churches of the diocese. Erik has trodden a long road in response to his calling, and we at Grace have been blessed to be part of the process that led to this moment, both an end and a beginning, an event full of promise, hope and mystery. We pray that those he encounters in the future will be as deeply blessed by his ministry as we have been, and that the spiritual, intellectual and psychic wealth he shared so lavishly with us over the years will take root and grow in all of us, enriching our church, its people and its community as we live into our individual and collective ministries.
Breakfast is Back for March 5!

Joy is ours, even on the first Sunday of Lent – the Stones will be cooking breakfast! Come and enjoy the wonders prepared by some of Grace’s most gifted culinary practitioners.

The breakfast problem, however is not solved. In order to insure the survival of this much-loved meal, MORE VOLUNTEER COOKS ARE NEEDED! Jim Dorris has courageously leapt into the breach and will be in the Undercroft on Sunday to solicit various groups and persons to take on responsibility for a Sunday breakfast. If you love Sunday morning breakfasts and think that the Parish and yea, the Universe itself will be the poorer without them, please consider signing up for a Sunday morning of bacon, eggs, quiche, toast, pop tarts or other morning delicacies.

First Sunday Forum

Join young adult activists Allison Kendrick, Meredith Garrett, and Victoria Flores  in the Undercroft this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. to hear about their experience joining the Standing Rock Water Protectors in North Dakota this past November and learn about how this kind of work might intersect with Christian spirituality and the life of faith. Meredith and Allison are both committed Episcopalians who together bring great gifts of writing and photography. An Advent reflection on their experience at Standing Rock was recently featured by the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama.

The Weeks Forum (nee "Lectionary Class") will not meet so that its members can attend the forum.

Gardens and Grounds
GARDENS & GROUNDS:  FYI, there will be a pile of expensive Black Gold plant material in the lower parking lot on Sunday morning. Why? Because we're going to top off the community garden and free garden beds. Feel free to come help, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm. We're expecting a reunion with Josh and Amanda Hall this Sunday also, as Josh is bringing equipment down from Athens to help, and Amanda will be visiting also, with their baby (and one on the way!). Be sure to say hello to them, and thank for going to all this trouble.

B2G Community Garden work session: 2 pm Sunday. MANDATORY garden start up meeting this Sunday at 4 pm; bring a snack and drink to share.

Two short beds are available for rental in the community garden -- contact Lisa Lemza --  lemzala@aol.com -- if interested.

General grounds work day: 10 am -- 3 pm Saturday, 11 March. Bring wheelbarrows, rakes, gloves. Work day goes rain or shine. Thanks to Edith Snider for volunteering to make lunch!
Stations of the Cross Liturgy Continues
Girl Scout cookies, March Madness, income tax prep, storm warnings: it’s hard to stay focused at this volatile time of the year. If you’d like a little help keeping your mind above the fray and on the events that make for a meaningful and holy Lent, make plans to take part in the weekly service of Stations of the Cross that continues at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. These services will take place each Thursday evening during Lent.
Protecting Sacred Waters -- Saturday, March 4

We've all heard of the Native Americans who came out and stayed for months in order to protect their sacred waters -- and the drinking water of a large number of Americans -- at Standing Rock. Some have left, but others are still there, and the issue of protecting natural resources has become a crucial one. Join supporters of the Water Protectors on Saturday, March 4, from 1-4 p.m. in the Undercroft at Grace Episcopal Church to help raise money to support the legal issues around these actions. You'll hear comments from people who have been to Standing Rock and hear about what's happening now.

Cost is $10 -- please bring cash; no cards accepted.

Students -- the $10 feel will be waived if you agree to write a letter to elected officials -- ask about the EIS, about treaty rights, etc. For more information, go to Facebook" Sacred Waters Benefit or e-mail cjb2@tennis.org.

Beginners’ CPR Course
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has for years been one of the most effective tools of emergency care givers and a handful of every-day citizens; the more people who know this life-saving technique, the more likely victims of heart attacks, near-drownings, electrical shocks and other bodily misfortunes are to survive. If you’d like to join the ranks of those certified in this technique, please take advantage of a one-day training program for beginners. Those who pass the test at the end of the training will be certified in CPR for a year.   The course has been scheduled for Saturday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Undercroft at Grace. Cost is $45. To register, please contact Mike Shillinger at (423) 618-8587.
