Hi Team,

February flew by with  428 volunteer hours contributed and a distribution of 466,709 pounds of food!! Our February Box Build team put in a huge effort; despite lower than usual volunteer numbers, they pumped out a new record of 1846 boxes, and a shift record of 1024. Excellent work! We will be opening a monthly Sunday CSFP Box Build in March in addition to our normal 3rd Saturday. This will run from 1 pm - 4 pm.  Volunteers have finished sorting our Holiday food and we are excited for the upcoming Scouting for Food Drive - March 25th. Look out for your local Boy Scout troop at Fred Meyers around town, they will be out collecting community donated food for Food Bank of Alaska!

Mobile Food Pantries in need of volunteers:

First CME Church - Mid Town
1st & 4th Saturday of the month 1:00 pm-3:00 pm
3600 McInnes Street (off 36th Ave between Lake Otis and New Seward)


FBA is looking for volunteers to help staff our Mobile Food Pantries. In this role, you will be setting up and handing out food to clients. You would be joining a great team in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an on-going regular, weekly commitment. Please contact  Sarah Radonich  if you are interested in this position. 

This site may be indoors during inclement weather, if it is indoors it would require lifting and carrying food boxes.


F ood Pantries in need of volunteers:

Anchorage Northside Seventh-Day Adventist Church
Every Tuesday at Noon
204 W. 10th Ave. 

We are looking for two or three volunteers to help unload FBA deliveries at the pantry once a week.

FBA Office Volunteers

 

Food Bank of Alaska is looking for computer literate volunteers who can help with food donation and other data entry. We are currently seeking volunteers who are available on a regular, weekly basis. This would be a flexible schedule, Monday - Friday with up to 8 hours of service per week. Please contact Sarah Radonich for more information on how you can help.

You can fill plates for Alaskans struggling with hunger when you sign up for your 2017 PFD. Please consider a gift to Food Bank of Alaska when you  PickClickGive.  

BOX BUILD SCHEDULE 2017

Come help build food boxes for low income elders! Groups of volunteers work assembly-line style to pack 2200 food boxes on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday of the month. Shifts run 9 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4 pm. Closed toe shoes and shirts with sleeves are required for this event.

CHILDREN UNDER 10 ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE WAREHOUSE.

We need a specific number of volunteers to make this a workable project,  if you need to cancel please contact Sarah Radonich 
or 
cancel your registration online  so the next available person can join. 

Must be comfortable standing on concrete for 3 hours, working at a fast pace, and bending and lifting boxes up to 30 lbs. Youth volunteers need to be 10 or older for the box build.
 
  

WINTER WEATHER AND HOLIDAY CLOSURES

Winter Weather Statement
If you are scheduled for a volunteer shift at our warehouse or office in Anchorage and the Anchorage School District has closed due to weather or road-related safety concerns this winter, it is highly likely that Food Bank has made a similar closure. Call ahead before braving the roads! Here is hoping that all the snow falls on ski trails and mountains this year instead of roads and driveways!
