Buddy Up 2017 Kick Off- Mayor Wild is proud to offer, for the 5th consecutive year, the insanely popular, life-changing and most innovative health program in the area...Buddy Up 2017! The program kicks off Friday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.. Then, lucky participants meet every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for 9 weeks. Participants will be guided, and encouraged throughout the program by their very own team captain. This year we're bringing back the 6-week triathlon and an optional weight loss competition! We will also host a super fun warehouse challenge. Buddy Shuh, a finalist in the smash hit television series "Biggest Loser" leads the program and will use his life experiences to help you make reasonable, sustainable, but meaningful changes in your life to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The Westland City Council meeting takes place on Monday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

Planning Commission

The Westland Planning Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

Don't hibernate this winter! Visit the Mike Modano Ice Arena at 6210 N. Wildwood, for a variety of winter programming.

TimBits "Learn to Play Hockey" begins their 12 week program on January 7 at 11:30 a.m. and runs through April 8. TimBits is for kids from 4-9 years old. Players must have a USA Hockey registration and birth certificate. The cost is $60.
Open Skate will be held on January 10 and January 12 from 2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. The cost is $6/child and $7/adult for residents and $0.50 for non-residents. Skate rental is $3.
Friday Night Glow Skate runs from 7 p.m. - 9:20 p.m. on January 13. The cost is $8/child and $9/adult for residents and $0.50 for non-residents. Skate rental is $3.

Jefferson Barns has a number of free activities and programming available during the week. Residents are encouraged to come check out all this community center has to offer.

Pickle Ball - Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (*What is it?*) Pickle Ball is easy to learn and fun to play for individuals of all ages. It is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special pickle ball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball is similar to a wiffle ball, but is slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their skills.

SAVE THE DATE - HOCKEY NIGHT IN WESTLAND - Mayor William R. Wild, along with his Westland Wild Wings, are once again getting ready to lace up their skates to challenge the Detroit Red Wing Alumni in the 8th Annual Hockey Night in Westland charity event. The event will be held on ice on Saturday, March 18 at the Mike Modano Ice Arena located at 6210 N. Wildwood in Westland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the game begins at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, at 6:15 p.m. our very own Westland Hockey Association Mini-Mites and Mites will take the ice to show off their skills. The alumni pre-game fun will start at 7:00 p.m. and the puck drop will be at 7:30 p.m. This event has turned into one of the communities most anticipated events. Tickets for the event ar e $10 for adults and $5 for children (Kids 5 and under are free). Exclusive access is also available for an additional $20 which includes access to the VIP room, appetizers and drink coupons. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Mayor's office, the Mike Modano Ice arena and North Brothers Ford.
