A fair go for all our residents
At Cumberland Council we take seriously our responsibility to treat all our residents fairly. This is why we have made it a priority to reform Section 94 development contributions.
Under the Environmental and Planning Assessment Act, Council can levy property developers to boost local infrastructure. These are known as Section 94 or Section 94A contributions and they pay for things like playgrounds and playing fields, better public areas and more green spaces.The levy's importance can be seen in the newly redeveloped Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre, opening in April, which benefited from $8.87M in developer contributions.
Cumberland Council inherited different plans of managing these developer contributions, with Auburn's out-dated plan consistently bringing in less money than neighbouring Holroyd.
In effect, this meant former Auburn residents were not getting the same value as their new neighbours.
To tackle this Council has hired external consultants to review all existing plans and to create a uniformed approach cross the LGA, resulting in the best deal possible for all our residents.

New exhibition tackles being Australian today
The Peacock Gallery invites you to a provocative new exhibition exploring identity in Australia today, opening on Harmony Day 2017. Curated by Tian Zhang, I AM, YOU ARE, WE ARE, THEY ARE brings together the works of four Sydney based artists
to explore the place of the individual in the modern nation state.
Artists Abdul Abdullah, Idil Abdullahi, Liam Benson and Amala Groom have drawn upon their own experiences to create deeply personal works, many created in direct response to national policies. The final result is a thoughtful handling of the hot button issues of our time.

Youth Week 2017: bigger and better than ever
Council will host two flagship events as part of Youth Week 2017. Parkside is a free festival for 12-24 year olds. New Zealand rapper Savage - whose hit "Push" is featured in the latest Fast and Furious trailer- will headline. DJ superstar DJ Willi will also drop in. The festival also boasts a pop up Skate Park, custom car display, free food and transport. Sat 8 April at Granville Memorial Park, 2-6pm. For more info click here

is the launch event of Council's Youth Strategy 2017-2021. Hear from the young community leaders that helped create the strategy as they put a face to the five priority areas - employment, education, health and wellbeing, community connection and safety. Harmony Day Morning Tea
