Taking a Stand Against Violence Against Women

#orangetheworld

On Friday, December 9th HCT members wore orange to work in order to take a stand against violence against women. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the United Nations encouraged all to celebrate 16 days of Activism Against Gender Violence. As the U.N. says: "Violence against women is a human rights violation. It is a consequence of discrimination against women and of persisting inequalities. It impacts and impedes progress in many areas, including poverty, health care, education and peace and security."

In order to raise money to end violence against women and girls, please visit the HCT Facebook page or the UNWomen.org to donate.

We all know someone who quietly goes about making the world a better place for all of us. Each year at the RA, NYSUT takes the opportunity to recognize special individuals nominated by their peers. The  NYSUT Community Service  award recognizes the union member who has rendered outstanding volunteer service to the community.  NYSUT's  Life Line Honor Roll  lists those who have saved the life of another.

Nominations are free and you can nominate more than one person.  You can even nominate yourself! The deadline for submission to the HCT office is January 10, 2017.
