Guelph/Ithaca Exchangeithaca

Visiting Suzuki students and teachers coming to Guelph from Ithaca Talent Education School
On the weekend of  February 23-26 , twenty five students and 4 teachers will be coming to Guelph from Ithaca, NY to an exchange started in 2015.

A large, 50 member string orchestra  will be formed by the senior students of both schools under the enthusiastic baton of maestro Kirsten Marshall. They will rehearse all weekend towards a joint concert on  Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 pm  in the GYMC Recital Hall. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted. All funds raised through this event will go to the Guelph Drop-in Centre.

Two of the American Suzuki movement pioneers will also be joining us from Ithaca that weekend. On  Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 pm Joan and Sandy Reuning  will give a Fireside Talk  about the beginnings of the Suzuki movement in North America in the upstairs foyer of the GYMC. Bring your coffee and muffins and come listen to this delightful couple tell the tales of their first encounters with Dr. Suzuki and how their children became some of the first Suzuki students in North America. Everyone is invited to attend!

Behind the Scenes scenes
This week, we snuck into the Recital Hall at the GYMC just as rehearsals began for  Sunday's Guelph/Ithaca Exchange concert, "Beyond Borders - Friends in Music". It was a treat to watch Kirsten Marshall lead this enthusiastic group of talented young musicians. This is a concert you won't want to miss!
