Provincial Bioenergy Grants Awarded 

Bioenergy is low-carbon energy or fuel made from agricultural products such as crops and livestock waste. The Bioenergy Producer Program will support 500 direct jobs and is part of a larger effort to help companies succeed in Alberta's low-carbon future.

The $60-million Bioenergy Producer Program funding will keep operations going for 31 Alberta bioenergy producers while a third-party adviser and other stakeholders advise government on new policy options to support the industry.

Alberta's bioenergy industry currently powers the equivalent of 200,000 homes using wood pellets, biogas and liquid biofuels. A report on policy options is expected by the end of March.

The Spruce Grove & District Chamber of Commerce submitted policy to the Alberta Chambers of Commerce in 2014 "Wood recycling: turning waste problem into a resource solution".
The chamber is now seeing some significant results from this policy.

Tax Assessments   If you own property in Spruce Grove, you will be receiving your 2017  assessment notice  
in the mail this month.

This assessment notice will show the market value of your property, which will be used to calculate the annual taxes on that property. This process, which follows guidelines established by the provincial government, helps ensure taxes are distributed in a fair and equitable way where owners of property with similar market values pay similar amounts of property taxes.
If you have questions about your 2017 assessment notice, you can attend the Assessment Open House on March 8 from 1-7 p.m. in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall. An assessor will be available to review and discuss your property assessment.

Alberta Awards of Distinction (ABAD Awards) were hosted by the Alberta 
Chambers of Commerce
The Alberta Business Awards of Distinction recognize businesses/organizations that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and contribution to their community while having developed business acumen & management practices to ensure long term sustainability. To date, over 200 companies have been named Alberta Business Award of Distinction recipients.

The Alberta Business Awards of Distinction was initially created by Alberta Economic Development and Tourism in 1992 during a merger of the Alberta Export Achievement Awards and the Alberta Small Business Owner of the Year Awards.

The Government of Alberta originally presented the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction in the fall of each year from 1992 to 1995. In 1996, the Alberta Chambers of Commerce took over the management and presentation of the Awards. There are currently 11 diverse award categories with an additional Premier's Award to be given out.

On Friday, February 24th, Chamber Ambassador Charlene Bell and Chamber Director Melissa Johnson joined ACC Treasurer Rosetta Taylor (also Past Chair with our chamber) for an evening of networking and award presentations at Edmonton Renaissance Airport Hotel the Edmonton International Airport.

Two of the Spruce Grove & District Chamber of Commerce members were finalists at theawards; Goodwill Industries and Carvel Electric.
