I
look forward to seeing you at a free screening of the powerful civil rights documentary 13th
being held on
Saturday, March 4. (Details below.)
I'm honored to help lead a panel discussion after the event,
Community groups representing a variety of causes will also be on-hand, providing information on their work and ideas for getting involved.
The award-winning film 13th, named for the 13th Amendment of the Constitution which freed slaves and prohibited slavery, traces the shameful historic treatment of African Americans including slavery to inequities in today's criminal justice system. (Youtube
Trailer.)
It highlights themes increasingly relevant today, with the new presidential administration. I'm deeply committed to our work to
ensure justice, equity and tolerance.
