WEIGHT OVERLOAD PROTECTION WITH MAGNETEK G+ MINI DRIVE

Weight overload protection automatically limits the amount of weight a hoist can pick up.  Typically this is done with a calibrated load cell or a slip clutch in the hoist.  This can also be accomplished with a variable frequency drive which controls the hoist motor.

Recently we have successfully employed the Load Check II feature on G+ Mini hoists.  This feature can be used to limit the capacity of the hoist to its full load capacity or to a lesser load if desired.  In order to implement, a known weight is suspended from the hoist and then the drive is calibrated through simple command inputs at the drive keyboard.

More information can be found on the G+ Mini drive at G+ MINI DRIVES.
VFD'S HAVE A SHELF LIFE

Like most variable frequency drives, Magnetek VFD's have electrolytic DC bus capacitors.  These bus capacitors need to be periodically energized or the capacitors will lose their charge and require a sophisticated reforming process.

Drives in storage or on hoists and cranes that sit idle should be powered up every 6 months for 30 to 60 minutes.
