Principal's Message
Greetings Fairmeadow Community,
This Monday, February 27th marks the
beginning of our third and final trimester of the school year. Just as sprouts, leaves, and blossoms are poised to explode with growth across our garden and campus this spring, our students are also ready to make extraordinary growth during this third trimester. It's an exciting time to be a Firebird!
Last Wednesday we welcomed the
Palo Alto TheaterWorks cast to Fairmeadow for their performance of
Oskar and the Big Bully Battle. Our students watched Oskar, Frank, and Beth work with each other and adults at their school to solve a challenging bullying scenario between the students in the play. Our students discussed the author's message with the cast following each performance, and many conversations continued in classrooms throughout the day. The themes included treating others the way that you want to be treated, being an upstander, and seeking help for yourself or others during unsafe situations. These themes are also prevalent in our social and emotional learning curriculum, Second Step (K-2) and Steps to Respect (3-5), implemented through lessons taught in classrooms. We all contribute to the safe and welcoming environment for all students at our school, and
Oskar and the Big Bully Battle provided another chance to reinforce expectations with our children. Thank you to our PTA for supporting this opportunity for our school!
This Thursday, March 2nd we celebrate and honor the legacy of the great Dr. Seuss (author Theodor Seuss Geisel) through our school's celebration of
Read Across America Day. Every year across the country, readers of all ages celebrate
Read Across America Day on this legendary author's birthday. Our Student Council is hosting a Fairmeadow Spirit Day on Thursday, Pajama Day, when students are welcome to wear school appropriate pajamas to school.
The
Online Auction gives the entire Fairmeadow community the chance to bid on unique experiences and exciting items while raising money to support our school. Donations to the PTA through the online auction support many important functions of our school including Noon Sports, Walking Club, Noontime Activities, Steps to Respect/Second Step curriculum, increased student supervision, technology purchases, and much more! Please visit the Fairmeadow PTA website for more information about the amazing items up for auction and the many ways that the PTA supports teaching, learning, and community at our school.

As sunny days return with the approach of spring,
please review our school expectations around supervision of children following the school day. There is no school-sponsored supervision at the end of the school day, and many children leave under the supervision of parents, other trusted adults, or childcare providers immediately following dismissal. If your child is going to remain on campus after school, please ensure that your family has a plan for your child's supervision, with an adult actively supervising your child during that time following dismissal. Our school policy around after school supervision can be found on page 11 of our Parent and Student Handbook,
linked here. Thank you for your efforts to ensure the safety of your child and other children following the school day.
This third trimester will be an action packed stretch of the year as students strive to reach their fullest academic, social, and creative potential. I look forward to working together to support them on this journey.
