1,000 Plus Books!
5,000 Plus Students!
Yes, it was as intensive a week as could be for me in Plainfield, Illinois. Our 4th trip to Plainfield over the years, and I need to tell you that the schools, the staffs, and the students, were extremely well prepared and prepped for the visit. Beautiful welcome signs, receptions, and the like, made Nathaniel and me feel so special and honored.
It was Beth Kuykendall of the Heritage Grove Middle School who was our outstanding contact once again, and who did a super job. But let it be known that each of our school contacts did an outstanding job in preparing their schools and students for our visit, and included Mary Doody, Agatha Valenti-Ferris, Nicole Gubbins, Mark Heller, Jean Ksiazak, Kelly Larson, Jody Litkenhus, Erin Menconi, and Jennifer Searls.
The principals, Patrick Flynn, Mark Heller, AJ Hundal, Dean Kariotakis, Susan Kavich, Shannon Miller, Tom Novinski, and Dr. Christian Rivara, were all outstanding!
A few of the accompanying photos says it all.
We flew to and from Chicago in a Delta
CRJ900.
I really don't know airplane designations, but Nathaniel said this p
lane feels like a sp
orts car. Zooms down the runway and lifts offs so very quickl
y. That
was Nathaniel's take, and he should know, having been an air force pilot,
even if it was some 60 years ago.
Besides the 6 middle schools in Plainfield (Drauden Point, Heritage Grove, Indian Trail, JFK, Ira Jones, and Timber Ridge) we also visited Three Rivers School in Channahon, and Plano Middle School in, of course, Plano.
Many thanks to all the PTOs that were involved with the visit.
My thanks also to Linda Taylor, Community Relations Coordinator, for all the photos taken on behalf of School District 202.
The days were long as each evening, there were myriad books in our hotel room to inscribe. And those who know me, know that I do a full inscription - To So & So, with my best wishes, date and sign it.
Many thanks also to Tamara Crater, GM, of the Wingate By Wyndham for making the cost of our stay so reasonable for the participating schools.
Off to schools in Pittsburgh on Monday.
Happy Presidents' Day!
