Join our parea for an incredible presentation by one of the world's leading classical archaeologists for an insider's perspective of ancient Athens and its lasting impact on the modern world. Dr. John Camp is joined by George Orfanakos,  Executive Director of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA). ASCSA is a consortium consisting of over 200 U.S. colleges and universities that have been involved in archaeological and classical studies in Greece since the late 1800s! George is a former Greek Orthodox priest, scholar, and member of several charitable foundations. You will be surprised to learn about the extent of ASCSA's activities in Greece.
For the past 50 years, Dr. John Camp has been involved at the Agora excavations under the Acropolis. Starting as a Harvard volunteer in his teens, Dr. Camp now leads the excavations at the Agora, which have yielded thousands of artifacts that help us understand and appreciate the contributions of the Athenians.  Dr. Camp was featured on the PBS' critically acclaimed documentary series,  The Greeks, co-sponsored by the National Hellenic Society (NHS). He is also a prominent contributor on several episodes of the National Geographic/NHS co-production of   The Greek Guide to Greatness
Enjoy a memorable evening and learn more about the NHS' vision and programs at the home of our wonderful hosts, George Demos & Chrysa Tsakopoulos-Demos.
