Emergency Call For Action on DAPL
Support Standing Rock Sioux
On Tuesday, February 7th, the Army Corps of Engineers, citing Pres. Trump's Presidential Memorandum of January 24 that aimed to fast-track completion of the Dakota Access pipeline, announced it was cancelling the previously-ordered (by Pres. Obama) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the pipeline. The Corps notified Congress on Tuesday it would issue the last necessary easement for construction of the pipeline near Lake Oahe and the Standing Rock Sioux lands in North Dakota and to drill under the Missouri River for completion of the $3.8 billion project.
Tom Goldtooth, Executive Direction of the Indigenous Environmental Network said: "The granting of an easement, without any environmental review or tribal consultation...goes against protocol, it goes against legal process, it disregards more than 100,000 comments already submitted as part of the not-yet-completed environmental review process...It goes against the treaty rights of the entire Seven Councils Fires of the Sioux Nations."
This unprecedented cancelling of an EIS and further Tribal consultation will be challenged in court, with the filing of a motion for a temporary restraining order, and an injunction to halt construction.

First:

Second:
Ask your City
or County Council to cancel the contract for financial services, including issuing of bonds and brokering investment, from Wells Fargo, TD Bank or Citigroup that are among the 17 banks funding DAPL. Hold a daily/weekly rally at a branch of one of these banks in your city.
Third:
Research if your public pension fund is invested in DAPL. If so, join or build a coalition movement to request the fund's management to divest from Energy Transfer Partners, the conglomeration of companies building the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Attention California WILPF members: Take Action
Both huge state public pension funds - CalPERS (Public Employees Retirement System) and CalSTRS (State Teachers' Retirement System) - hold significant investments in Energy Transfer Partners totaling almost $100 million.
State Assembly member Ash Kaira (D San Jose) has introduced AB 20, a bill that would require the funds to divest by July 1, 2018. Presently, staff of the CalPers' Investment Committee is recommending a "No" position on this bill the committee meets on Monday, February 13.

Continue to submit comments for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the Army Corps of Engineers by th
e February 20th deadline using this 350.org form. You may edit and personalize your response.
If the EIS process is resumed your statement will become part of the formal legal record of evidence incorporated into the formal Environmental Impact Statement analysis and review process.
