Dear Animal Lovers, Advocates, Rescuers & Activists:
Rob Stewart's memorial/funeral was held yesterday in downtown Toronto. Our hearts go out to his family of origin, and also his advocacy family -- which numbers in the hundreds in the GTA, and in the thousands worldwide. Please consider donating to continue Rob's work to save our sharks and oceans at www.sharkwater.com. Also, please consider introducing your friends/family/ colleagues to his work, which was truly unique, staggering in scope, incredibly enlightening, inspiring to the enth degree, and so very, very brave! Well done Rob. I wish I'd been able to shake your hand and thank you personally.
...You know readers, this is another reason why it's important to get out to your community events, and personally meet the rescuers/advocates/activists who are leading on so many fronts. There is incredible work being done all across this country for animals, and we have many, many "homegrown stars/advocacy leaders". Their work deserves recognition and promotion, and deserves YOUR presence.
Be there. For them. Now. Before it's too late.
Rob's job was a tough row to hoe (showing my age with that expression, aren't I!) -- bless his beautiful heart. But truly, our leaders need our support. Not just keyboard warriors, petition signers, and bloggers (tho all are helpful), but in the flesh, show up and be counted, hands-on, in-your-face, I'm-right-here-standing strong-with-you-kind-of-support.
I'm not much of one for showing up for events I'm "supposed to show up for" (like Xmas, showers, weddings, birthdays ... all the commercial CRAP) -- but I do get to every advocacy event that I can, because it's incredibly important to me to support those who are willing to get out there on the limb and report back to the rest of the world. Just sayin'.
Beautiful, beautiful boy. I look at his picture, and my heart is broken. I look at him again, more deeply, with more time, and more breath, and my heart is healed.

Climate change is a much greater threat to wildlife than we thought:
...If you're looking to advocate for animals, please get active in either climate change or conservation...
Thanks to international pressure, there's a renewed call for banning cat declawing in Ontario -- thanks Dr. Paul McCutcheon DVM for unequivocal NO! (thanks to Global News for reporting as well...)
San Francisco bans the sale of non-rescue dogs and cats! YES!

Happy Family Day! I'd like to give a shout out to Ralphy's Retreat this year, for ensuring that two female pigs -- Momma Winnie and her 7 piglets, and Momma Nala and her 5 piglets -- were able to keep their children. Ralphy's committed to LIFELONG care-taking for these two pig families, which is an incredible commitment, not to mention statement, in and of itself. Hats' off to you Kara and Chris, et al. I have SUCH respect for you, and so appreciate what you are modelling for the world...
For all the precious animals, mitch und stella.
