It's time to speak...
with guidance by the Holy Spirit!
FEB. 18-26:  WEEK OF ACTION
FOR REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS

When Jesus faced mounting hostilities by those who disapproved of his teachings that "the least among all...is the greatest" (Luke 9:48) and to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27), he encouraged his disciples publicly by saying:  "Do not be afraid....for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what you ought to say" (Luke 12:7, 12).

In these days as immigrants and refugees have been particularly targeted by Executive Orders calling for entrance bans and increased enforcement, fears within our Disciples families and beyond continue to be reported and to grow.
In response, Disciples have been speaking, signing letters, and raising their voices in many ways!!  See these images of how Disciples have been in action to show love for immigrants and refugees this week:

A wonderful opportunity now lies before us
between the days of February 18-26
to pray for and act with the Spirit's guidance.

February 18-26 is the Legislative Recess; the first time since the announcement of Executive Orders deeply impacting immigrants and refugees when legislators will be in their home districts.  These days will be our opportunity to RAISE OUR VOICES in support of refugees and immigrants, as we now:

1)   SCHEDULE LOCAL VISITS WITH NATIONAL LEGISLATORS
to discuss refugee and immigrant rights concerns with leaders when they will be in home districts from Feb. 18-26.  Disciples are partnering with our Refugees Welcome partners, and multiple faith and community groups, to support nationwide visits next week; on Feb. 22 or ANY DAY THAT WORKS from February 18-26th.  Go here:
http://reformimmigrationforamerica.org/we-are-all-america/  for shared resources that include a full toolkit with goals, how to contact your leaders, talking points, how to register your visit and link with others in your area, and much more!!

Please also contact our office at:  [email protected]  or 202-957-7826 if you are scheduling and/or participating in a visit (as we want to track our Disciples engagement in support of refugees and immigrants), and if we can assist in any way!  Also, see below links to multiple resources to assist you in preparing for your visits.

2)  PLAN TO ATTEND TOWN HALL MEETINGS  and raise up support for and stories about immigrants and refugees who contribute to your community.  Go here for a full list of currently scheduled town halls:

3)  HOLD OR JOIN A PRAYER VIGIL, RALLY, OR OTHER PUBLIC ACTION in support of immigrants, refugees, and interfaith partnerships in your area.
Please let us know of upcoming events in which you are participating, and send photos of your actions!!   Again, use:

4)  SIGN ON AND CALL to support immigrants and refugees!  Here are some great, current opportunities that will be strengthened by including your voice:
--Go here to join more than 3,500 faith leaders across the country in supporting refugees:

--Take Action NOW to tell the Administration you resist families being separated by the current ICE raids:

Please contact our Refugee & Immigration Ministries office and Rev. Sharon Stanley-Rea at
[email protected]  or 202-957-7826 to let us know of your plans, and with any questions you may have or additional resources needed to raise up your voice in the days ahead!
