12:30pm – 2:30pm – End of Life Care for People with Dementia in Residential Care Setting – End-of-life care for residents with advanced dementia involves a number of key issues: appropriate management of symptoms including pain and behaviors, involvement in programs such as hospice, and decisions about medical interventions. Aggressive medical treatment for residents with advanced dementia is often inappropriate for medical reasons, has a low rate of success, and can have negative outcomes that hasten functional decline and death. This two-hour course will help attendees understand hospice care and how it is a helpful service for dementia residents.
