CHANGE CHALLENGE

The Change Challenge has been extended until  Friday, February 10! Help support the Castle Rock Police Polar Plunge Team  as they raise money for Special Olympics. Bring in all your spare change!  We are competing against the other elementary schools in Castle Rock, and the winner gets the "traveling" trophy that Officer Lewis is holding (and they will even engrave our school name on the plaque!) Let's be the first school to win this trophy! Thanks for your support!

PRINCIPAL LETTER

Good morning! We have been working hard to prepare for the 2017-18 school year! This is how the structure will look: Preschool (4 & 5 yr olds), Elementary (K-4th), and Middle School (5th - 7th.) We are thrilled to see how the school budget, staffing, and programming are all coming together. Additionally, with the launch of our newly updated Middle School program (despite the DCSD future cast error), we have been working on finalizing the due diligence for our Phase 1 financing (which saves the school money by buying out our previous investor development loan). This is an excellent set-up for Phase 2 construction financing. Construction of the middle school is scheduled to begin in 2017-2018, with a scheduled completion/grand opening of the new middle school in 2018-2019.

We have recently added extra administrative support by expanding the work hours and  workload of Dean Bethany Merkling. This is in direct response to the feedback from our recent SAC s urvey. We have also added a new monthly opportunity for communication with school administration called "Lattes with Lance." In these monthly meetings, I will discuss the Cougar Essentials and other timely topics, including a Q & A session. These meetings will be held in the library on the following dates: 2/17 (8:15am), 3/17 (7:30am), 4/17 (3:45pm), and 5/19 (8:15 am).

We love our school and everyone who is a part of the WCA family! Special thanks to our students, staff, parents, and greater school community for their hard work over the last two years! We have
a truly exciting opportunity to build upon the hard work of the
past, and set the stage for an incredible future where we can
"Go Anywhere and Do Anything!"

Sincerely,

Mr. Howard

WCA ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS

Battle of the Books

World Compass Academy is excited to offer an in-school Battle of the Books where students can compete against each other with their knowledge of four books. We are looking for individuals in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 who enjoy reading and discussing what they read. These individuals will then be placed into teams of four for competitions. The competitions will involve answering both content questions and unique characteristics of each book. Third and fourth graders will be responsible for reading  The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling,  Just Juice by Karen Hesse,  The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleishman, and  Stone Fox by John Reynolds. Fifth and sixth graders will be responsible for reading  Elijah of Buxton by Christohper Paul Curtis,  Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech,  The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, and  Woodsong by Gary Paulsen.
