Connect With Pacifica This Week
|
|
Greetings!
As you may have read on social media or heard from your friends and neighbors, we have experienced an unusually high number of residential burglaries in the past two weeks; 11 since February 1st, with 4 occurring on this past Tuesday alone. These are all daytime burglaries, as most residential burglaries are, and follow a pattern that is also occurring in Daly City, South San Francisco, and San Bruno right now.
Our Police Department’s detectives are working with other agencies to share information and to strategize the best ways to catch the thieves and stop the burglaries. While they do have leads, the PD isn’t releasing any information to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.
Having said all that, Police Chief Dan Steidle has scheduled a community meeting on the topic to hear from the public and offer up-to-date information. Here are the details:
Community Meeting on Residential Burglaries
Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017
6:30 p.m.
Pacifica Community Center
Between now and then, the Police Department has brought in reserve officers to increase patrol of neighborhoods and expand law enforcement’s presence. As Chief Steidle said in his recent NextDoor post, “you know your neighborhood better than anyone.” If you see something that doesn’t look right, please contact the Police Department and report it.
In addition, the Pacifica PD issued a
Press Release earlier this week (and linked down below) with information about what you can do to protect your home. Please check it out.
Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and
thank you for wanting to
Connect with Pacifica!
Best,
LORIE TINFOW
City Manager

- Study Session on "In-Law Units" at Feb. 21 Planning Commission Meeting - A study session on accessory dwelling unit regulations will be included as part of the regular Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 pm at the City Council Chambers, 2212 Beach Blvd. The term “accessory dwelling unit” is the new legal term for what are commonly known as second units, in-law units, etc. Check back for the agenda to be posted to the meeting portal.
- Landslide Preparedness - With recent intense and prolonged periods of rain, we have seen news of landslide incidents around the Bay Area and even experienced the impact of the recent landslide on Highway 1 north of the Pacifica Police Station. Residents should be aware of landslide warning signs.
Warning signs include ground saturation where it has not typically been wet before; new cracks or bulges in ground, sidewalks, pavement, concrete floors or foundations; soil moving away from foundations; tilting patios / decks relative to main house; leaning / offset retaining walls or fences; sunken road beds; sudden increase or decrease in creek water flow and change from clear to muddy water; unusual sounds such as trees cracking, boulders knocking together, or faint rumbling as landslide nears. Short, intense bursts of rain may be particularly dangerous, especially after longer periods of heavy rainfall.
If you suspect imminent landslide danger, call 9-1-1. Inform neighbors of the potential threat. Evacuate. If you cannot safely leave your home, move to a second story if possible. Click here for more information from the U.S. Geological Survey about Landslide Preparedness.

- Share Your Opinions on Commercial Marijuana Businesses in Pacifica - With the passage of the Medical Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MCRSA) in 2015 and the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA) in 2016, Pacifica must decide to what extent, if any, to allow medical and non-medical (recreational) marijuana businesses to operate in Pacifica. We invite Pacifica residents to take part in our survey on this issue. Visit our “City Hall Listens” page to take the survey and make your voice heard. Survey response deadline is March 1.
A Joint Study Session of the Pacifica City Council and Planning Commission will be held on March 6, 2017 at 6:30 pm at City Council Chambers, 2212 Beach Blvd. to discuss the regulation of medical and non-medical marijuana uses in relation to Proposition 64.
