Notes from Ms. Dahnke

New Life in Seasons

It seems like spring is coming early this year. In fact, it seems like we went from fall to spring without taking a second look at winter. Coming from the great white north, that does not bother me too much except I know we need the cold air to kill bugs, viruses, and other warm- weather friends. However, I am always in awe when spring comes and I see the colors of the spring flowers, buds on the trees, and hear the sweet song of the birds. God sure does know how to bring beauty out of a seemingly dead world.

Spring always is a great reminder of the new life we have in Christ. All one has to do is look at the newspaper, watch TV, or listen to the talk around town to be reminded how "dead" the world is to all that is good and all that is God. I can only imagine how God grieves for His creation and how we have all but destroyed it. Yet, He continues to bless us with the vibrance of a colorful sunrise or a gorgeous sunset. He paints the horizon with flowering trees and people of all colors, shapes, and sizes. He constantly finds ways to let us know that He is a part of even the smallest areas of our lives.

I used to get really sad when fall came and the leaves fell off the trees. To me, the trees just looked dark and dreary with no life. Then, I was reminded that the leaves have to fall off the trees so that new buds and leaves can form after a period of rest. Seems to me that these trees are very similar to our lives. We can go through things in our lives and all seems well. We might even find ourselves wandering away from God. Suddenly, it seems like our lives are falling apart. The days become dark and it seems like things will never get better. God has a way of getting our attention, though, and will allow springtime to come and He will grow new life in our hearts.

When you see the spring daffodils, (dreaded) pear blossoms, spring leaves, and so  many other signs of new life in nature, remember that God cares for you even more than those things. You are His child, His prince or princess, and He wants to see you through those dark and dreary days as well as those bright, shining moments. He has promised new life through Him, which means that even during those darkest moments, He is holding you in the palm of His hand and will never let you go. This is so reassuring given the state that the world is in these days. No matter how dark our world becomes, God will always be that shining light and He will always send new life to show us that He loves us and will be there for us.

S ickness at BCA
Thankfully, it seems we have been spared the worst of the germs that are flying around Chattanooga.  However, we monitor absences daily.  It is crucial that you let us know if your student is out sick or for some other reason so we are able to monitor that closely.  If your student is sick, please keep him/her home.  If he/she has a fever, please do not send him/her back until the fever has been gone for a minimum of twenty-four hours without medication.  I know that a sick student can be an inconvenience but the only way to keep the germs from spreading is to contain those who are sick.  Also encourage your student to wash hands often with soap and water.
Gotta' love this time of the year!

Volunteer Hours
The deadline to complete volunteer hours (6 hours for each family) is March 31.  Keep reading the newsletters or call the school office to find ways that you can serve and take care of that.  We need help in areas from painting to yard work to setting up for events, etc.  There is something for everyone to do and many hands make light work. Thank you in advance for helping out.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
  • Volunteers to help sell books and materials during the week of the Book Fair (March 13 - 17)
  • Volunteers to help in Book Fair on Grandparent's Day (Mar. 17)
  • Gardening (especially when it warms up for good)
  • Piano player for Wednesday morning chapels
  • A chairperson to manage the all-school dance that is rescheduled for Mar. 10.
  • Volunteers to help chaperone at the all-school dance (Mar. 10)

  • Middle School Notice
Parents, please be on the lookout for a letter in the mail.  As the weather gets warmer, our students tend to get a little restless and start to test the boundaries.  We have recently noticed an increase in cell phone usage, dress code violations, tardies (before and during school), and students who are slow to listen.  In the packet, you will notice a new write-up that will be required for you to sign.  These are not sent home for every violation but more for those who are "frequent fliers."  We have also re-instated detentions.  These will be held on Tuesday afternoons until 4:00 and Thursday mornings at 7:15.  We love these young people so much and want to work to continue to help them be successful so we just want to reign them in a bit.  Thank you for your help with this!

News from BCA Business Office - 2017-2018 Enrollment -  Kindergarten - 8th grade
Re-enrollment for the 2017-2018 School Year is now open for our current student families. The priority window for 2017-2018 begins now and continues through March 1, 2017. Please return the completed re-enrollment application and Joyful Response forms with a $300 per student ($200 second student and a $500 family maximum) re-enrollment deposit no later than Wednesday, March 1. (Forms have been sent home, but additional copies are available in the front lobby.) After March 1, we will begin admitting new students from the admissions list to classes for 2017-2018. If you have not re-enrolled your child by March 1, we cannot guarantee there will be space later. In addition, tuition increases $200 per student after March 1, 2017.

If you have a child who attends the PK3 program for the current academic year and are not planning to continue through the summer, you will also need to re-enroll your child for the PK4 class for the fall. Please return the completed CCC re-enrollment application and Joyful Response form with a $50 per student re-enrollment deposit no later than Wednesday, March 1.

If you have a child who attends the PK4 program for the current academic year OR year round, you will need to re-enroll your child for kindergarten for the fall. Please return the completed re-enrollment application and Joyful Response form with a $300 per student re-enrollment deposit no later than Wednesday, March 1.

SPECIAL OPEN HOUSE FOR PARENTS OF CURRENTLY ENROLLED PRE-K3 and PRE-K4 STUDENTS
On Thurs., Feb. 23, we will be having an open house, not only for prospective families, but also for our currently enrolled families who have a rising pre-K4 or Kindergarten student. Mrs. Ann Bolden will be in her classroom from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to answer any questions parents may have about what their child may expect as they transition from Pre-K4 to Kindergarten.

Additionally, Mrs. Sara McIntyre and Mrs. Jenni Woodrow will be in their classrooms to talk to families about Pre-K4.

Mrs. Jane Mullinax, our business office mgr., will also be in Mrs. Bolden's classroom to answer questions about tuition payments and other business-related items.
    REFERRAL INCENTIVE
A financial incentive of $100 will be given to current or new families for each family that refers a pre-school student (age 6 weeks - 4 years), $500 for an elementary aged student (K-5) and $1,000 for a middle school student (6-8) who enrolls in Belvoir Christian Academy. The referral credit will be applied to your tuition account in January for referred K-8 grade students.

The referral credit will be applied to your tuition after three months for referred children age 6 weeks to 4 years. The referral incentive may be split among the families listed on the new student's application.  This incentive does not apply to families who already have their child (ren) enrolled in our school.  In other words, a younger sibling does not qualify as a new student.  In order to qualify for the incentive, the school family must be listed on the original enrollment form as having made the referral, the student must be accepted into Belvoir Christian Academy, and the new family's account must be current.
