Rector's Reflections
A Holy Life
Both the Leviticus and Matthew readings Sunday* give us directions for living a holy life, and the readings from Psalms and Corinthians echo this love of God's righteousness and holiness. Leviticus sets forth the totality of the holiness God expects in our lives, and such detailed commandments can certainly be stifling and don't always translate well to new times and cultures. But some of those details are startling in their relevance: don't completely clean the fields but instead leave some for the poor and the alien, don't profit from the blood of a neighbor, don't hate any kin. Each law ends with "I am the Lord," reminding us not only who God is, but also who we are and who we aren't, and why it is we should follow these proscriptions.

Jesus expands, in the Sermon on the Mount, the notion of holiness set forth in Leviticus: turn the other cheek, give more than is asked for, love your enemy. Radical words, indeed. Yet even these directives remain only laws, with the potential to drain life instead of give it, if they are not rooted in Jesus' life and the holiness he gives us. Interestingly, Jesus ends this portion of his sermon with almost the same formula as Leviticus, invoking God's perfection. Not only do these words call us to high standards-from our finances to our familial relationships to our dealings with strangers-but they also serve the purpose of making it clear how much we fail and how much we need God. So repetition of God's holiness and perfection is important, in marked contrast to our own lack of holiness. But it's even more important that it is Jesus who delivers this message, since he not only embodies that holiness but offers it to us as well, and enables us to live out God's laws. [Sundays and Seasons, 2017]

See you in worship where we are made holy in baptism, forgiven at the table of God's mercy, and as a people made holy by God, sent out in peace to love as we have been loved!

Bill+

*Sunday Readings:
Leviticus 19:1-2, 9-18 - Holiness revealed in acts of mercy and justice
Psalm 119:33-40 - Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes
1 Corinthians 3:10-11, 16-23 - Allegiance to Christ, not human leaders
Matthew 5:38-48 - The teaching of Christ: LOVE

Prayers Lifted...
Please keep All Saints member and former parish administrator Donna Young, her family and especially her Dad Don Higgins in your prayers on the death of her Mother Gloria.

Almighty God, source of all mercy and giver of comfort, graciously tend those who mourn, that, casting all their sorrow on you, they may know the consolation of your love; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Hold the Date for an Intergenerational Coloring event

On Saturday, March 11th 11:00 am to 12:00 noon we will gather in the parish hall to color large Stations of the Cross posters that we will display for Holy Week and Eastertide. All ages are welcome to experience the journey following the footsteps of Christ, and immerse yourself in the biblical account of the last hours and days of Jesus' life as we color the images together. This is a BYOC event--bring your own coloring tools (crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.) or use those provided.

Hold the Date for Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

We will gather the evening before Ash Wednesday, February 28th in the parish hall for our traditional pancake supper.  A freewill offering will be collected to benefit our fall youth mission

Join us as we more deeply into God's Word. We will walk through Romans to bring contemporary application of Scripture to life. Discover how you can participate more fully in God's kingdom as we read through Paul's letter to the Romans. We gather Thursday afternoons 3:00-4:00 pm followed by a brief Eucharist in the Beck Memorial Library.

Wolfeboro Reads

This Tuesday will be the last gathering of Wolfeboro Reads at 4:00-5:30 pm at First Congregational Church Wolfeboro to discuss the book Just Mercy. Starting March 7th we will gather here in the Beck Memorial Library at All Saints during Lent for a film and discussion series called Discover Islam.

Mary Williams

We continue the series highlighting All Saints Members who have a long history with our Church.

This week we feature Mary Williams.  Mary and her late husband Jack had vacationed in Wolfeboro since 1984.  They attended All Saints Church during those vacation weeks.  In 1958, they built their retirement home on Mirror lake.  They retired and moved to Wolfeboro permanently in 1959, and joined the church that year.

Prior to retiring Jack was a librarian who worked in prep schools in Connecticut, Portland Oregon, and Bloomfield Hills in Michigan where he served as librarian for the Cranbrook schools. They attended Christ Church in Bloomfield Hills.

Mary worked for Lord and Tailor when it was located in the undercroft.  She and Mary Haeger served as co-chairs for the summer fair.  Jack was a Eucharistic Minister, a Vestry member, and involved with the planning of the Outreach Building.

The photo supplied by Mary Williams was taken on their wedding day in August 1949.

Outreach Luncheon
Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve the Outreach Luncheon on Thurs., Feb. 23rd. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall.  Contact Sandi Johnson or Marge Morris if you have any questions.

Lynne and Art Slocum

This week the camera focuses on Lynne and Art Slocum.  Art and Lynne moved to Wolfeboro in 1995, and became members of All Saints in 1998.

They have co-chaired the summer fair.  Lynne served on the Vestry and was Senior Warden.  Art was Clerk of the Vestry during his 3 year term.  Both are members of the choir. Lynne is a member of the Tuesday morning Women's Worship group that is led by Cate McMahon.  For the last 8 years, Art has led the Men's Bible Study that meets on Thursday morning.   For several years, Art has chaired the furniture booth, and Lynne has worked and chaired the Jewelry booth for our summer fair.  Lynne started the flower delivery ministry, and continues taking flowers from the church service to those who are sick or can't make it to church.  Lynne also regularly works at Lord and Tailor.  Art is a Eucharistic Minister.  He is also on the crew that takes clothes from the bin to the sorting room for L&T.

All of us are beneficiaries of the varied and terrific ministry that Art and Lynne continue to give to All Saints.  We are grateful for their service and dedication to our church

Donate Computers or Tablets
Donate Laptop, Tablet, or Desktop Computers for Use by Refugee Families

Internet providers in Southern New Hampshire offer very low cost Internet access to families with children eligible for free school lunches. Most recent refugees to NH qualify, but many do not have a computer to take advantage of the offer.

To help refugee children with their studies and their whole family to become productive members of the community, The International Institute of New England (IINE) is accepting donated computers in good working order and will get them setup for refugee families who have settled in NH.

IINE will happily accept desktop, laptop, and tablet computers (Mac or Microsoft). System requirements:
System must be clear of personal data
System must be in working condition (bootable system)
System must be a flat screen vintage or newer
Southern New Hampshire University student-volunteers will assist IINE with configuring and installing required software to access the Internet.  They are not responsible for cleaning personal data from the system drive.

Data Cleanup Recommendations.

It is recommended that all individuals donating computers remove all personal data from their systems, which requires more than the deletion of files.  It is recommended that donors run tools to remove and overwrite data on the system drive.

Free download application for Microsoft systems.
http://download.cnet.com/Eraser
Eraser
Eraser is a secure data removal tool for Windows. It completely removes sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns.
There are many other cleanup tools available.

Apple Systems
There are tools available on Apple Systems to restore the donated system to a clean state.  Access is available via:
Launchpad -> Other-> Disk Utilities-> Erase functionality.

Once a system is clean and ready for delivery to IINE, contact Warren Muir ( HYPERLINK "mailto:wrmuir@gmail.com" wrmuir@gmail.com) or Joanne Crowe.(joannecrowe317@gmail.com).
