JOYICITY:
The Bloomsday Newsletter
Vol. 3 February 17th, 2017

Dear Joyceans,

As we continue to shovel ourselves out of this blustery February we thought that it would be a great time to share some movie-themed ideas with you. Whether you'd like to stay in, or go out, we've got you covered.

If you're brave enough to go out, why not give Ciné Gael (Montreal's best source for Irish films) a try? Staying in? For a truly Joycean experience it's time to watch (or re-watch) Richard Linkater's Before trilogy. And for the true Joyce purists there's a new audio version of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, with the voice talents of a famous father and son duo, that we'd like to share with you.

And by the way, what goes better with the movies than junk food? Try out our magically delicious Lucky Charms treats recipe. You'd be surprised at the cult following this cereal enjoys.

Finally, we're hiring! We've got a fantastic job opportunity for anyone with event planning experience and a love for all things Joyce. Send us your CV and cover letter by March 1st.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about this issue of Joyicity. Email me at joyicitynewsletter@gmail.com with your opinions, questions, or story ideas. Best,

Ciné Gael's 25th
A Feast of Irish Films

Ciné Gael turns 25 this year! We've decided to celebrate their silver anniversary with an interview with the organization's program director, Timothy Hine, to find out more about what's in store for this year's festival.

Sunsets and Sunrises
A Truly Joycean Trilogy
Megan Abley

The influence of James Joyce has been far-reaching and unexpected, spanning both national borders and artistic mediums. Richard Linklater, a contemporary American filmmaker who created Slacker (1991), Boyhood (2014), and
the Before trilogy, is an example of this.

Wondering, Wandering
Some Serendipitous Discoveries
Kevin Wright

'Serendipity' is an interesting word. You would almost think it was one of those strange invented words in Finnegans Wake by James Joyce, who so loved to split the etym. Alas, it is not one of his creations.

Lucky Charms Treats
They're Magically Delicious
Tasha Jones

Is there anything better than a bowl of sugary cereal around 11 o'clock at night when you just need a little snack? I don't think so.
