Week Five Top 5

The legislature continues its work.  Following is a look at 5 key items taking place this week at the Capitol.

1. The sanctuary cities bill is is currently being debated in the Senate.  This bill would require local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration officials.

2. The Senate Finance Committee is meeting and working to craft its budget for the next biennium. They have heard from key healthcare and education agencies.  Each of these are a significant consideration in budget preparation and the overall state budget.

3.  House committee assignments are expected to be released in the near future, potentially by the end of the week.

4.  The Senate passed new ethics reforms measures 31-0.  This was one of Governor Abbott's emergency agenda items.

5. The legislature goes back to work after a strong pro-business message was delivered by Governor Abbott in his State of the State address last week. His speech included strong support for the Texas Enterprise Fund which is a top priority for many chambers across the state as well as TAB. Read the full speech HERE.

Have a great week!
