Enjoy another long weekend with your family! Students will observe President's Day on Monday, February 20. Monday is a teacher workday. Please remember teachers will not be available to students this day. This is a day set aside by the district for them to work on their courses and on staff development.

We are also excited about GOC's Virtual Week next week, February 21-24. Please be sure to read the details in the Virtual Week Information section below.

GOC VIRTUAL WEEK   
Grades 4-12

GOC is excited to once again offer VIRTUAL WEEK from February 21-24. All instruction will take place virtually this week via Adobe Connect - there will NOT be on campus sessions this week.

Students are off for President's Day on Monday, February 20.

Please make sure your student:
  1. Knows how to access EACH of their online rooms and can login with their personalized Adobe credentials.
  2. Has a working headset with microphone to engage in all of the interactivity that our teachers offer during their virtual sessions.
  3. Has a working webcam to virtually present.

ON-CAMPUS ACCOUNTABILITY
Grades 4-8

On-campus accountability will take place on the following dates for students in grades 4-8. Attendance is mandatory and exams will take place during the regular learning lab schedule.
  • Grades 4-6: Wednesday, March 1, 2017
  • Grades 7-8: Thursday, March 2, 2017

2017-18 GOC FULL-TIME REGISTRATION FOR NEW FAMILIES

Full-time registration will continue through February 28 for students in grades 4-12 interested in attending GOC for 2017-18. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration process is not complete until all required documents are presented to the school office. Please click HERE to see a full list of all documents required for school registration.

PAC ROLLER SKATING EVENT

 

Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and your Student Ambassadors would like to invite you to join our Fun Friday Skate DayParents are responsible for the supervision of their student during this event.

  • What: Fun Friday Skate Day
  • When: Friday, February 17 from Noon-4 p.m.
  • Where: Sparkles of Gwinnett, 1104 Grayson Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30045
  • Additional Information: Pizza/Soda Pitcher Combo offered at $10 and Skate Mates offered at $5 each

PERSONAL SAFETY LESSONS
4th and 5th Grade Students and Parents

We all share a common goal for our children to be safe and protected from  harmful things. Related to this goal, school counselors will be presenting personal safety lessons to all 4th and 5th grade students. Due to the importance of this topic, Dr. Dana Edwards will conduct the lessons on personal safety using the Child Lures curriculum.  All sessions will be conducted on campus during your student's regular scheduled learning lab class according to the following schedule:
  • Wednesday, March 1 - 4th Grade
  • Wednesday, March 1 - 5th Grade (Part 1)
  • Wednesday, March 8 - 5th Grade (Part 2)

GCPS HEALTH LIFELINES LESSONS
7th Grade Students and Parents


As part of the GCPS Health curriculum, Dr. Edwards and Mr. Blair will teach the second part of the Lifelines (suicide prevention) lesson on Thursday, March 2 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Students should bring a lunch to eat prior to the lesson. JACK KENT COOKE YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Attention 7th Grade Students
 
The Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program is a selective 5-year pre-college scholarship for high-performing 7th grade students with financial needs.

RICH EXPERIENCE
Grades 4-12
Would you like to learn how to draw humans realistically? Do you love to draw and paint people? Then this Art Experience is for you!

Art Experience: Figure Drawing and Painting Workshop
In this workshop, students will learn about facial and body human figure proportions, then put their knowledge to work as they draw and paint a series of facial and body portraits. Come have fun learning new technical drawing and painting skills in this Art Experience!
When: Thursday, March 23 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Where: GOC Campus

2017-18 ELECTIVE COURSE SCHEDULE
Students in Grades 9-12

The district is moving to a new student information system for the 2017-18 school year. There will be no schedule changes in the fall. All returning GOC students should use the following link to rank elective choices from the list of course offerings at GOC. Click HERE to access the link. If you do not select electives they will be assigned to you based on your course history.
NEW POLICY - DROPPING GRADES
Grades 4-12 Students & Parents

GOC will have a new policy with regards to dropping grades. In an effort to encourage students to complete ALL assignments and take advantage of retest options, NO grades will be dropped in any classes at the end of each semester.
FINE ARTS CLUB
Grades 4-12
 
We haven't forgotten you! For the next six weeks many of the fine arts students are preparing the musical "Disney's Peter Pan, Jr." for the March 23 dinner theater performance. Any Fine Arts Club students who are not involved in the musical are welcome to attend the rehearsals. You could also have an opportunity to be involved "behind the scenes" in such areas as set design, costumes, or audio/video assistance. Please let Dr. Pritchard or Ms. Campbell know if you would like to help out.
  
Once the musical is over, we will resume our  "regular" Fine Arts Club sessions. Please mark your calendar now with the following dates:
  • April 11 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. (Grades 9-12)
  • April 12 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. (Grades 4-6)
  • April 13 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. (Grades 7-8)
  • April 28 from 9-11:30 a.m. (Grades 4-12) This will be a special GUITAR DAY with special guest, Mr. Lollis!

EOC TEST OUT INFORMATION
Grades 8-12

Testing will occur during the March mid-month EOC Testing Window and will be offered at each middle school or high school with students who register.

PEACH STATE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS!

It's scholarship time at Peach State Federal Credit Union! The 2017 Scholarship Program offers in excess of $160,000 in scholarships and educational grants. The 15th Annual Legacy Student Scholarship and the Rick Cost Scholarship are part of this program.

The Legacy Student Scholarships are given in honor of past and present Board members and employees who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. These scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach. The Rick Cost Scholarship honors Mr. Cost, retired CFO of Gwinnett County Public Schools, for his contributions to the Gwinnett County school system. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Gwinnett County Public Schools pursuing a degree in education. To access the Rick Cost Student Scholarship Application please click HERE.

In order for students to be considered, completed applications and supporting documentation must be received by Peach State Federal Credit Union no later than March 17, 2017. All scholarship recipients will be chosen by the end of April 2017 and notified shortly thereafter.

Coffee Club Information

The Parent Advisory Committee ( PAC)  will be meeting each Thursday from 9:15-11 a.m. at  Panera Bread Company near the   Mall of Georgia . Parents are welcome to drop by and meet representatives from PAC and other GOC Parents.
