Living in a "tourist destination," I thought it would be fun to share tidbits and brief observations in this spot. Key West is more than Duval Street, after all. There's lots to experience on this small island and islands beyond.
February is a great time to escape winter and head to Key West. As I write this, the temperature is 71 F and is projected to be 81 F later today. What to do…
I highly recommend visiting The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden on Stock Island, which is the next island after leaving Key West. The only frost free botanical garden in the contiguous U.S., it features many exotic tropical plants and "heritage" plantings as well as a butterfly garden and many opportunities for bird watchers. They are getting ready for their annual GardenFest and monthly plant sale this coming weekend. We will be playing music during the festival along with many other Key West artists.
Open daily from 10am to 4pm the Botanical Gardens is a relaxing stroll through what Key West used to look like before it was settled. General admission is only $7, $5 for seniors and military, children under 12 get in free.
