Opening February 24th

February 24 - April 9

Based on the turbulent and triumphant life of Danny Kaye, this intimate musical portrayal chronicles Kaye's career and his relationships on and off the stage as we follow the rise of Danny Kaye from an undisciplined improvisational comic to his success under the guidance of his wife, Sylvia Fine. Songs include "Tchaikovsky," "By Jingo," "Minnie the Moocher" and "Inchworm," among others. The Kid From Brooklyn features the work of songwriters Kurt Weill, Ira Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart, Frank Loesser and Cole Porter, and of course, Sylvia Fine.

"And, verily, The Lord said unto Abraham: "Cut the off the foreskin of thy organ as a covenant of obedience."  And Abraham did replieth: "You're kidding, right?" Playwright David Jay Bernstein has long wondered what the 'guest of honor' at a Bris ceremony would be thinking if he knew what was going on.

David Jay Bernstein's The Bris, The Bar Mitzvah, & Beyond examines  the rites of passage that define the relationships between Jewish fathers and sons:

"And on the eighth day after his birth, little Max Shapiro begins a life-long conversation with his dad, Gary, by asking the age-old question: "What do you think you're doing with that knife?"  The Bris sets the stage for the Shapiro's lifetime together."

This Tony Award-nominated, hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends, Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

Songs include "Magic," "Suddenly," "I'm Alive," "Evil Woman," "All Over the World" and, of course, "Xanadu".

The witty historical modern day classic, The Lion in Winter brings England's King Henry II and his family to raucous life. It's 1183 and royals - Henry, his estranged wife Eleanor and their three grown sons, Richard, Geoffrey, and John, gather at their winter palace for gifts, games and as much blood-letting as the Christmas holiday will allow. With questions of succession in the air, all three sons jockey to be named Henry's heir. Manipulation and intrigue abound in this lively script by James Goldman that was famously adapted into a film starring Katharine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole, Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton. Now, The Lion in Winter returns to the stage in an exciting new production at as part of Curtain Call Playhouse's 20th-anniversary season.

Gender And The Pulitzer Prize
A Yearlong Play Reading Series

Arguably the most prestigious award for recognizing  excellence in journalism, literature, music, and photography, the Pulitzer Prize is  currently enjoying its 100th birthday. To participate in the centenary festivities, Thinking Cap Theatre proudly presents  GAP - A Yearlong Play Reading Series  that  spotlights and examines Pulitzer plays by women.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has awarded a prize in the category of drama 86 times in
the past 100 years.  Of the 86 award-winning  plays, only 15 (17%) were penned in full or in part by a woman;  Thinking  Cap's GAP Series  will feature a staged reading of 11 of those 15 plays by women.

The  GAP series will run February through December 2017 at The Vanguard.
The readings will take place once per month on a designated Sunday at 1 pm. There
will be talk backs with cast and director, moderated by a dramaturge, directly following
each reading.

A full schedule of readings and dates will be available at  www.thinkingcaptheatre.com .

The next reading in the  GAP Series will be on Sunday, March 26 at 1 pm with  Allison's House , the 1931 Pulitzer prize-winner by Susan Glaspell.

Actor/Comedian Brad Zimmerman's hilarious and inspiring story
about the grit and passion required to 'make it' as an artist and the sweet rewards that come from never giving up on your dream.

My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy is the story of Brad Zimmerman's struggle to fulfill his dream and 'make it' as a comedic actor in New York.  One-part standup, one-part theatrical, and all parts uproarious My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy has garnered rave reviews wherever it has played.

Every mother dreams her children will grow up to be happy, healthy, and successful.  Every Jewish mother secretly - and often not so secretly -  adds specifics to her wish:  A doctor, a lawyer, a dentist, or these days, a Silicon Valley tycoon would make her very happy.  Brad Zimmerman's mother has finally adapted to her 'actor-waiter' son's career choice and financial situation: "If all goes well, I think Brad is going to buy a bookcase," she boasts to her friends.

Sarah Goldman is a nice Jewish girl with a problem:  her parents want her married - to a nice Jewish boy, of course. They've never met Sarah's boyfriend, who happens to have the unfortunate name of Chris Kringle, and who doesn't exactly fit that description, so to make them happy she invents Dr. David Steinberg - the man of their dreams.  When they insist upon meeting Dr. Steinberg, Sarah contacts an escort service to provide her with a Jewish date - but instead they send her Bob Schroeder, an out of work actor who agrees to perform the impersonation.  Sarah's mother - armed with challah and lokshen kugel sets out to snare this Beau for her daughter with hilarious mix ups and consequences!
