Preparing Each Student for a Successful Future


As a reminder, the Staff Communicator will be distributed each Thursday that we are in session, and two summer issues are also distributed. Archived copies can be found on the "Communications Department" web page.
SI Day and Snow Day Make-up
There will be no school for students on Friday, February 17 for a School Improvement Day. However, school WILL BE IN SESSION Monday, February 20 as a snow day make-up.

PDC Needs Assessment Survey, Deadline 2/17
Please take approximately 10 minutes of your time to complete the District Needs Assessment Survey at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RepMO2016-17NeedsAssessment between now and 3:30 on Fri, February 17.    

When completing the survey, please reflect on the Professional Learning opportunities provided within our district.  Your feedback is valuable and will be used by the District Professional Development Committee to develop the District Professional Learning Plan for 2017-18.  These results also provide information to the CIA Team as they are developing summer learning opportunities and trainings for next year.  
Kindergarten Screening Dates Set
The Republic School District will schedule kindergarten screening appointments starting Monday, February 27 th .  Kindergarten screening will be held for those children who reside in the Republic School District that will be 5 on or before July 31 st .  

Screening appointment times are from 8:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at the building your child will be attending. You will call your building of attendance for an appointment.

Please allow 90 minutes to complete the screening. During your child's screening appointment, parents will complete the Kindergarten enrollment paperwork. Please bring the following items:
  • Child's birth certificate and immunization record
  • Current proof of residency (utility bill: water, gas, electric; rental agreement, or real estate contract)
  • Parent picture identification
  • List of your child's doctors with phone numbers
  • Emergency contacts with phone numbers
Employee Children Enrollment Information
*For employees enrolling their child(ren) for the first time in our district. Also, for employees wanting to request an elementary building transfer.
Employees who... 
reside outside of the Republic School District (non-resident) boundary that would like to enroll their student(s) in our district 
OR 
live within the Republic School District boundary, but desire their student(s) to attend an elementary site other than their designated school (the building in which you work)...

must receive approval notification from the Department of Federal Programs and Student Support Services. If this applies to you, please complete an Employee Student Enrollment Request form found HERE and submit it to the Department of Federal Programs and Student Support Services. Please note the review process could take up to a week, and employees submitting requests will receive notification from the Department of Federal Programs and Student Support Services. 
Staff Accolade
Congratulations to bus driver, Dan Siebenborn for obtaining his Certificate of Special Needs Transportation. Mr. Siebenborn is one of only 10 people in the National Association for Pupil Transportation across the United States to complete this certification! Way to represent Republic!!! We applaud you! 

Investigation of Student Drug Testing
In the interest of promoting drug free lifestyles and providing students with many opportunities to "just say no", the Republic School District is investigating the implementation of a student drug testing policy. The investigative process has just begun. At this point we want to measure the level of community agreement with such a policy to determine if and how to move forward. Gathering community input regarding this important issue is vital to the process.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO TAKE A SURVEY THAT CLOSES FEBRUARY 21. 
Boehne Financial Group Visit
The Republic School District operates a 403(b) and 457 Plan with the assistance of CUNA Mutual, VALIC, and Boehne Financial Group. The 403(b) and 457 programs are a voluntary retirement plan that allows all employees to save money via payroll reduction to supplement their PSRS and PEERS benefits.

Mike Carpenter from Boehne Financial Group will be in the district from February 21st through February 24th, 2017 to meet with anyone who has questions regarding enrollment in a plan or would like to have their existing account reviewed. The schedule of schools is below.
 
There will be no official signup sheet or schedule, just stop in and speak with Mike anytime that day.

Republic Community Foundation Grants
Apply NOW through MARCH 3 for a grant through the Republic Community Foundation! The Republic Community Foundation has a continuing interest in supporting institutions and projects that provide vital community services. However, the Republic Community Foundation also has interest in:
  • Projects that provide innovative solutions for existing and emerging community needs.
  • Projects which encourage collaboration between local organizations.
While these are areas of strong interest, requests need not be limited to these interests. Grants will be awarded the evening of Tuesday, April 11 at the Annual RCF Banquet at RHS.

Upcoming Chats with Chance Dates
All employees are invited to attend monthly meetings with Mr. Wistrom known as Chats with Chance. These are casual get-togethers to discuss whatever topics or items employees in attendance desire. Below is the upcoming schedule.
  • RHS: February 21 at 6:30 a.m. (Please note this change from 2/14)
  • Schofield: March 7 at 7:30 a.m.
  • RMS: April 11 at 6:30 a.m.
  • McCulloch: May 9 at 7:30 a.m.

CTA Update
We will be having our annual CTA breakfast and meeting before the Inservice Day on February 17th. We will meet in the Lyon Library for breakfast at 7:15 am. Our meeting will be from 7:30-8:00. We will be inviting Board Members and Board Candidates to speak, along with taking care of annual business. There will also be DOOR PRIZES! Please plan to attend, it will be short, sweet, and accompanied by a free yummy breakfast! What a great way to start your day! Did I mention DOOR PRIZES?

Preschool Enrollment, March 25
Republic Early Childhood Center will enroll preschool students for the 2017-18 school year on   Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Early Childhood Center.

Enrollment times are  8:30-10:30 a.m. for all class options.  Enrollment is first-come, first-served. A completed Intent to Attend form along with a $30 non-refundable enrollment fee is required to secure a spot in the program (cash, check, or money order-no credit cards accepted).   

Enrollment will continue until all spots are filled . Once all spots are filled, a completed Intent to Attend form will place your child on the waiting list.

Preschool class offerings are based upon the child's date of birth as well as class structure and skill focus. Please review the class descriptions prior to the enrollment date.

PHP Souper Bowl Results
January 30-February 3 students and employees were challenged by People Helping People of Republic to collect canned soup and food for those in need. We are proud to say the call was answered!
