IN  THIS ISSUE
On December 16, 2016, Northville Educational Foundation awarded 41 teachers and 20 projects across the Northville Public Schools district with Innovative Grants totaling $30,224.

Forty-three applications were received requesting over $90,000 in funding. The applications were reviewed by a panel of seven judges and then scored based on their innovation, how they address curriculum standards, their ability to be replicated, the number of students impacted and the goals for the outcome of the project. The top scores that fit within the $30,000 budget allocated were selected.

Among the winners include Forensic Science Kits to support STEM curriculum at both middle schools; Gel Electrophoresis kits to support new biomed curriculum at the high school; STEM tool kits at Winchester and Moraine; and unicycles at Moraine which will help develop balance, coordination and muscles, all shown to correlate to positive academic outcomes. The Northville Educational Foundation truly appreciates these teachers who are willing to go above and beyond to bring extra programming into their classrooms so that their students can better experience and absorb what they are being taught. Innovative Grants are an opportunity for teachers to experiment with how they teach a lesson, but it's also an opportunity for students to experiment with how they learn.

The 20 projects are already being implemented in the classrooms and will impact nearly 4,000 students this year alone at eight of Northville's 10 schools. Many of them will be able to be replicated year after year.

This is NEF's eighth year of providing Innovative Grants to teachers across the district. A total of $135,000 has been granted to these innovative teachers since the program began.

Volunteers

Thank you to all who supported NEF during our Annual Campaign to Give Students an EDGE. Over 225 people and businesses donated a total of $145,404 during the campaign period. $100,000 has been designated by the donors for the Cooke School fund while the remaining $45,404 is for our general fund.

These donations combined with monies we raise through our other fundraising efforts will allow us to continue to support the school district at a similar level as the past couple years, including the Northville STEAM Fair, Innovative Grants, Detroit Zoo partnership and more.

We would like to extend an additional thank you to our Honor Roll donors who donated $100 or more during the campaign.
