100th Day Project
Hello CCDS Families,
February has arrived and we are already halfway through the school year! As I reflect on the past five months, I am impressed with the strong sense of community at CCDS. Our students are learning the importance of their valuable place in our Chico community, our neighborhood community and our school community.
Our biggest fundraiser is right around the corner! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful community of parents that are working tirelessly on the Auction for Excellence to support what we do at CCDS. This event builds community and raises funds for a variety of programs that otherwise may not be offered. Please let this fantastic evening be a reminder that your contributions are a valuable part of our school culture and a key piece to how we are able to provide so many unique opportunities for our students.
As parents come together to fundraise, they also work to support our staff on a daily basis. Another great tradition that reminds us how fortunate we are is Staff Appreciation Week which is coming the week of February 13. A big thank you to our parents for showing love and support to our staff during this week.
Teachers are gearing up for our Spring Exhibition which will be April 5 and 6. Please mark your calendars. Schoolwork is more meaningful when it's done for more than just the teacher or the test. We can't wait to give students a chance to articulate their learning, take center stage at this event, and share their work. This will be a chance for students to talk about their learning, answer questions, and present to an authentic audience, you! We're looking forward to partnering as facilitators and audience members to showcase student work in our All-School Exhibition!
Warmly,

Breakfast for Learning
Mornings can be hectic for families. We have all experienced the rush out the door or the panicked forgotten item. Fortunately, CCDS offers a School Breakfast Program that can alleviate the stress of preparing breakfast. Research confirms that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for children's health, academic achievement, cognitive development and mental health. Whether your student eats breakfast at home or at school, let's help our kids by starting the day right.
Dutch Brothers is our newest neighbor and a welcome addition to the Park Avenue corridor. We are seeing many students with large sweetened drinks arriving at school in the morning. Please be aware that the fuel your child needs for a full day of school is balanced and healthy. We encourage water and milk as drinks of choice in the morning and at lunch.

Interested in Serving on the Facilities Committee?
With Measure K approved, CCDS should recieve some funding for facility improvements. If you might be interested in serving on the committee, please contact
Margaret Reece. This committee is chaired by Lowell Daun, Board Treasurer.
The mechanisms of how the distribution of the Measure K funds for charter schools will be handled still needs to be worked out by local charter schools, so we would plan on having at least two to three meetings of the CCDS committee beginning in later March. The time of meetings are usually in the early evenings and the meetings typically should last 1 to 1.5 hours. Thank you for considering.
