Early Care & Learning Council Appoints New Executive Director
Former United Way Senior VP to lead the Early Care & Learning Council

ALBANY, NY, February 8, 2017-The  Early Care & Learning Council (ECLC) announced today that Meredith Menzies Chimento has joined the organization as their new Executive Director.

Meredith comes with a wealth of experience as an accomplished leader in the Capital Region nonprofit community.  Meredith has spent the last three and a half years serving as the Senior Vice President of Community Impact at the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, where Meredith implemented and communicated the strategic vision of the United Way to improve lives for low income and vulnerable populations.  Meredith also enacted best practices in community impact, mobilized resources and implemented creative solutions to change community conditions.

Meredith's previous experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer, and her work with the Catholic Charities, and the YMCA provided a wealth of knowledge of the nonprofit culture, the needs of our community, and the connection to the resources needed to enable change.  As ECLC's new Executive Director Meredith, will advance ECLC's existing successes, expand networks throughout the community, manage state funding, and work collectively with the 34 Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R's) agencies throughout New York State.

Meredith has a MPA in Public and Nonprofit Management from New York University, and a BA in Arts, English and Anthropology from St. Lawrence University.

About the Early Care and Learning Council:
The mission of the Early Care & Learning Council (ECLC) is to promote excellence in early care and education with equal access for all families. We do this primarily through the support of and in partnership with a strong network of community-based organizations that provide Child Care Resource and Referral services, which we refer to as CCR&Rs.

Our vision is for all New Yorkers to have affordable child care choices that optimize the education and healthy development of children and promote strong families and communities.
ECLC has been working to make quality, affordable child care available to New York's families since 1975.  It seeks to develop a system of high quality early childhood care and education that:
  • is available to every child regardless of income level, cultural background or family composition;
  • adequately prepares and compensates teachers and providers;
  • involves all segments of the community in addressing child care needs;
  • shares and exchanges information among members, supports their efforts and promotes common goals and interest.
