Call to Artists:   FIRST NIGHT MISSOULA

First Night Missoula is a community festival celebrating the arts in Missoula. We are currently seeking proposals for creative projects and performances to take place in venues throughout Missoula on December 31, 2016.

First night will provide funding, venue space, tech support, and marketing for your creative project or performance. Tell us what you want to see in your community festival and how you plan to make it happen by applying online here.

Tell Us Something: Bad Advice

Tell Us Something is a celebration of storytelling, of the Missoula community, and of each other.  Eight to ten storytellers share their true personal story based upon the theme "Bad Advice". Each storyteller has 10 minutes to share their story from memory.

Tell Us Something is a live storytelling event that awakens imagination, empowers storytellers and connects the Missoula community through the transformative power of personal storytelling. It is a celebration of each other, our stories and how we move through the world together. All of the stories at Tell Us Something  are true.  Stories last for 10 minutes and are told from memory. Everyone is welcome to tell a story. There is a theme for each event. Tell Us Something is fiscally sponsored by the Missoula Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
USAF Academy Band: A Patriotic Celebration

Enjoy a free musical performance in honor of Independence Day from the USAF Academy Band at Bonner Park on June 22, 7 PM. From John Philip Sousa to Bruce Springsteen and everything in-between, this accomplished ensemble pays tribute to the patriotic spirit of Americans and the veterans who have faithfully served our country. Missoula City Band Free Summer Concert Series at Bonner Park

The Missoula City Band announces its summer series for 2016. For well over a hundred years, we have been bringing fine band music to the public in our open-air concerts. We continue this grand tradition with renewed spirit.

Concerts are on each Wednesday evening at the Bonner Park Band Shell (corner of Ronald & Hastings Streets, in the University Area) at 8pm; June 22 - August 12. This community service is provided by the generous support of the City of Missoula, hundred of willing musicians and supporters, and YOU!
MCT is Busy This Week!

The MCT Center for the Performing Arts is bursting at the seams all week!

Blackbeard the Pirate day camp features more than 100 children.  Performances are Saturday & Sunday at 3 & 5pm. 

Next Step Prep, a 6-week intensive program for high school students welcomes 23 teens from across the region and overseas.  

Finally, MCT's collaboration with the China National Theatre for Children (CNTC) and the UM Confucius Institute presents a free showcase performance this Friday, June 24th.  Nine Missoula high school students will present 3 Chinese Idiom plays at 6pm....in Mandarin!  Directed by visiting CNTC artist Yang Cheng, these students will travel to Beijing in July to perform in a prestigious international children's theatre festival!  MCTinc.org

Summer MADE Fair is This Weekend

The 8 th  annual summer MADE fair will once again be he held in beautiful downtown Missoula at Caras Park. It features over 100 local and regional artists, local food & beverages, merchandise booth, non-profits, and momma feeding zone. This FREE event is family and hipster friendly that takes place on June 26 from 10 AM - 5 PM at Caras Park.

The MADE fair is an alternative arts & craft market in Missoula, MT featuring local and regional artists held twice a year (summer & holiday). This is not your ordinary craft fair! The Missoula MADE fair is a full day of creative indulgence featuring local and regional artists making unique one-of-a-kind creations.

Radius Unveils New Exhibition

Radius Gallery is delighted to present new works by  Michael Haykin Dana Boussard , and  Dale Livezey , three highly accomplished painters who have committed their professional lives to making art of the highest standard.

Missoula Quilters' Guild Bi-Annual Quilt Show: The Fabric of Montana

Join Missoula's quilters on Friday June 24th and Saturday June 25th at  Big Sky High School for the bi-annual quilt show. Featured quilters include T erry Vick and Heidi Bakula. 

View two gymnasiums of quilts on display, vote for your favorites, view heirloom and antique quilts, and participate in a silent auction, raffle and door prizes. 
Summer Star-Gazing at the Planetarium

The University of Montana Department of Physics and Astronomy invites the public to its summer planetarium shows in the Payne Family Native American Center Star Gazing Room this May through August.  The 50-minute shows will be offered at 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Thursdays May 26, June 9 and 23, July 7 and 21, and Aug. 4 and 18. The maximum capacity for public shows is 28 people, so tickets are limited. Shows generally sell out far in advance and are not available the night of the show. Purchase your tickets online here.

Volunteers Needed for Sunday Streets Missoula!

Sunday Streets Missoula is looking for volunteers on July 17. Sunday Streets Missoula is an Open Streets initiative where Higgins Avenue (from the XXXs to 5th street) is temporarily closed to cars, and open for people to enjoy the public space.  Volunteer registration is available online here.  Volunteers are provided lunch, an exclusive t-shirt, and a free ice cream coupon.

Upcoming Choral Festival in Missoula Needs Volunteers and Host Families! 

The International Choral Festival takes place in Missoula next month, July 13-16. 

The festival is in need of about 15 - 20 host families to sign up for the 2016 International Choral Festival. This will give all visiting choir guests a comfortable place to stay. Hosting is an extremely rewarding experience and is absolutely the best way to appreciate the cultural differences from our foreign guests! To sign up, please fill out our host application form online. If you have any questions about housing please contact Janet Palmer at 274-0500.

The International Choral Festival runs smoothly with the help of our many volunteers. Our jobs range from sit-down work to equipment hefting. Volunteer applications are available online. Bill Bowers speechLess:
A Fundraiser for the Next Step Prep Scholarship Fund

Montana native, and Hellgate High School graduate Bill Bowers returns to Missoula for a one-of-a kind evening of performance magic with Bill Bowers speechLess - Stories With and Without Words, Tuesday evening, June 28, at 7:30pm at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.  speechLess is a special treat for Bill's hometown audience, uniquely weaving together some of Bill's favorite pieces from his many solo shows.

This performance is being presented by MCT's Next Step Prep (NSP), with proceeds from the show benefiting the Next Step Prep scholarship fund. The show will be approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission and artist reception to follow. Tickets are $20 each, all seats are reserved and they can be purchased online, or 406-728-7529, or directly from the MCT Box Office.
Singapore Luncheon Put on by Montana World Affairs Council in Helena

The Council invites you to join Singapore's Ambassador Ashok Mirpuri in Helena for a luncheon event where he will address the United States involvement in the Asia Pacific region from Singapore's perspective. A light lunch will be served. This event takes place on June 28 from 12 - 1:30 PM at  Best Western Premier Helena Great Northern Hotel, 835 Great Northern Blvd, Helena, MT.  The event is $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers. YAM Awards "360 Degrees Skateboard Competition" Winners

As an adjunct to the Yellowstone Art Museum's exhibition Harold Schlotzhauer: The Shape of Motion, which features many sports decks including skateboards, the museum announced an open call to all area skateboarders living in south-central Montana to compete in 360°, a skateboard design competition and exhibition.

Winners will be announced and skateboards distributed to the winners at a public event at the Billings Skate Park at 1:00 PM, Sunday, June 26. Find out more.
Empowerment Through Performance Workshop for Teens

Share Your Voice Foundation offers scholarships to local teens for this summer's Empowerment through Performance Workshop.  The Share Your Voice Foundation, an organization that believes in the transformative merits of the arts to empower individuals, is offering scholarships to Flathead Valley teenagers to attend a week-long creative leadership workshop.

Scholarships are available to teens ages 13 to 17 to attend the Empowerment through Performance Workshop, an innovative program designed to build confidence and creative leadership skills through arts-based curriculum. The workshop will take place July 25-30 at the Grange Hall, culminating in a performance on July 30 at Stillwater Landing.
