February 2017
Dear PTA Member & Friend of PTA,
Thank you for all who attended our annual Legislative Day at the Capitol. The weather kept many from Eastern Idaho away (we missed you!) but those who did attend gained some fantastic insight. In the morning our main topics were nutrition as defined by the USDA & Idaho Department of Education and we also heard from a non-profit, Feed the Gap, who is doing something about it. Click on the link to get more information. The afternoon session was internet safety and we heard from a lobby group who is helping to promote the KIDS (Keep Idaho Safe) Act to help limit adult content sent to minor's electronic devices. The Attorney General's office was also present and showed us how they try to get the cyber bullies and bad people who want to harm our children. Powerful stuff....

Our mission at Idaho PTA is to  support & speak on behalf of children in the school, our c ommunities, before governmental bodies and other organizations that
make decisions affecting children. Idaho PTA is also actively promoting resources to parents to help develop the skills they need to raise and protect their children and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of our state and in the nation.

National PTA has strong concerns regarding Betsy DeVos' nomination. In response, we have issued several statements and sent letters to members of congress in support of public education, reiterating our longstanding opposition to private school vouchers.

Read the letters to policymakers that National PTA signed on regarding the nomination of Ms. DeVos. Idaho PTA will be watching the progress of this nomination very closely on behalf of our members.

The Idaho Department of Education

on the most recent draft of the
