Darell L. Goddard 1928 - 2016 

Darell L. Goddard
, 88, of Wadsworth, passed away December 31, 2016, with his family by his side.

Darell was born October 9, 1928 in Quinwood, W. Va. to the late Esther and Hobart Goddard.   He graduated in 1947 from Meadow Bridge High School and joined the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War.   He attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, W. Va., where he received his education degree.   He worked three jobs in Rainelle, W. Va. teaching, coaching and working nights at Kroger.   He went on to become Head Football Coach at Oberlin High School and taught Social Studies.   He was inducted into the Lorain County Hall of Fame as his teams won 30 plus games.   In 1972 Darell moved his family to Wadsworth where he taught Social Studies and coached.   He also started the Junior High Track Team.   Darell worked for 20 plus summers with a government program for underprivileged students.

Darell was preceded in death by his brothers, Berlyn, Melvin, Eugene and Kermit, all of whom served in the Military.

Darell is survived by his longtime love of 64 years, wife, Phyllis;  son, William (Nancy);  daughters, Debbie (Kent), and Lea (Jeff);  twin brother, Harold Goddard;  grandchildren, Nicholas (Laura), Benjamin (Ralph) Joseph, Samuel, Rachel, Carly, Steven;  and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at the Hilliard Rospert Funeral Home, where a Memorial Service will be conducted Friday, Jan. 6, at 9:30 a.m., with Curt Thompson officiating.   Inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.   lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, Ohio 44256.

Note from Joe Arpad:  The pictures originally accompanying this obituary were of Darrell's son, William (Bill), not of Darrell.  I graduated from WHS in 1955 and was not a Wadsworth resident from 1956 to 2004, so I have no recollection or knowledge to rely on when trying to identify pictures in the annuals.  The Whisperers that I looked at for this obituary used "Mr. Goddard" or simply "Goddard" to identify the faculty member.  Hence, the confusion.  Sorry.
