Pacific Symphony & Pacific Chorale Going to Carnegie Hall

| Pacific Symphony, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, has been invited to perform for the very first time at one of the world's most prestigious venues, Carnegie Hall in New York City, in honor of one of today's leading composers, Philip Glass. Joining them will be Pacific Chorale, also appearing at Carnegie Hall for the first time. The concerts will take place April 12-14, 2018. Visit to Capitol Hill Amidst Uncertainty About Federal Arts, Humanities and Public Broadcasting Agencies

An article in Washington, D.C.'s The Hill that suggested the arts, humanities and public broadcasting agencies were being targeted for elimination by the Trump Administration elicited responses from many national and regional leaders in the field. Last week, ArtsOC President & CEO Richard Stein visited the offices of Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, and Congressman Lou Correa (above, left) in Washington, to communicate support for these agencies.
ArtsOC will be providing a further update in the weeks ahead, but here is a statement made by Robert Lynch, President of Americans for the Arts.

New Certificate Program in Arts Management

UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business and Claire Trevor School of the Arts will now offer a Certificate in Arts Management. Grounded in foundational business principles and geared for individuals looking to expand their careers in the creative industries, the interactive, online program is designed to enrich institutional capacity in arts management and to maximize the impact of the arts community as a whole.

Deadline March 31 for New State Cultural District Designation
|
The California Cultural Districts program aims to assist Californians in leveraging the state's considerable assets in the areas of culture, creativity, and diversity. A cultural district is generally understood as a well-defined geographic area with a high concentration of cultural resources and activities.
The cultural district certification process, managed by the California Arts Council, will be the core of the California Cultural Districts program. It will start with a two-year pilot in which a small representative cohort will actively participate in shaping the final certification process and related benefits and services.

5 OC Organizations Awarded
California Arts Council Grants

In the latest round of grants announced by the California Arts Council (CAC), five Orange County organizations were awarded grants for Professional Development or Consulting needs. They included: Media Arts Santa Ana, Muckenthaler Cultural Center, Shakespeare Orange County, Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association, and Arts Orange County. Grants in this program range from $1,000 to $5,000.

California Arts Council Selects 6 from OC for Grants Panel Pool

The California Arts Council (CAC) selected six residents of Orange County to be part of its 2017 grants panel pool. They included: David Anderson, Director, Audience Development, Saddleback College; Elizabeth Cardenas, public school art teacher; Joseph S. Lewis III, professor of art, UC Irvine; Janet Lomax, independent grants consultant; John Spiak, Director and Chief Curator, Cal State Fullerton's Grand Central Art Center; and Richard Stein, President & CEO, Arts Orange County.
