Optimism, more activity mark royalty review anniversary

Rig counts across Alberta have risen substantially compared with this time last year as economic activity and jobs return in the energy sector.

The increased activity is taking place one year after the Alberta government announced its modernized royalty framework, which encourages industry to innovate and reduce costs, making Alberta companies more competitive and encouraging more investment in Alberta.

Government adopted the Royalty Review Advisory Panel's recommendations in January 2016 and the modernized royalty framework for oil and gas took effect at the start of this year. According to industry figures, there were 247 active rigs in Alberta in mid-January. That is a 50 per cent increase compared to 165 in Alberta at the same point in 2016. It's estimated that each active drilling rig creates 135 direct and indirect jobs... read more
The power of Trump's personal brand

The power of Trump's brand will depend on his ability to deliver

Jan 31, 2017  l  by Kyle B. Murray

On January 20th, the U.S. will swear in the country's 45th President: Donald Trump. That is shocking to many people. Personal branding is an idea that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Historically, branding was about selling products. Marketers quickly realized, however, that it was also important and powerful in many other endeavors. From government services to employee recruiting to charity fundraising - brands matter! read more

How to communicate effectively at the office
You spend more time with them than your own family. They're by your side (or in the cubicle opposite) during your best and worst career moments. They're your co-workers, so you kind of have to get along. But saying or doing the wrong thing can have a damaging effect on those delicate workplace relationships. No one wants to be known as "Ms. Emails-in-all-caps" or "Mr. Creepyhugs." To avoid alienating your co-workers, we asked Glenn Tibbles, vice-president of Cenera, for his tips on how to communicate effectively at the office.
Scenario:  Your co-worker regularly microwaves last night's supper in the microwave, sending fish smell throughout the office
Don't:  Tell your officemate what everyone really thinks of their leftover lunches
Do:  Suck it up

Scenario:  There's no set dress code, but most people in the office wear dress shirts, jackets or pencil skirts
Don't:  Work in sneakers, and only sneakers
Do:  Take a look at what other people are wearing and meet their standard. It shows respect    ....read more
