WEEKLY TRAFFIC CALMING UPDATE
WEEK OF 2/3/17

Speed Table Update: Installation of permanent speed tables on 94 Avenue between 176 Street & 178 Terrace and 148 Street between 74 Avenue & Old Cutler Road began this week and are expected to be completed by early next week. The next area scheduled for installation will be SW 86 Avenue. Temporary street closures and delays are expected. Please use caution when driving in this area.

Tri-City Traffic Summit Councilman David Singer attended the inaugural Tri-City Traffic Summit on Friday, January 27. The three neighboring cities, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, and Cutler Bay, had a round table discussion with our District 8 County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava to share current traffic mitigation techniques throughout each city and identify key issues each city faces.

Palmetto Bay shared some of the challenges our Village faces including the lack of north/south connectivity, budgeting constraints for additional traffic calming devices, and lack of nearby employment centers. To ease some of these issues, the Village is currently creating a transportation master plan, with the help of our traffic engineer to provide recommendations and identify priorities that lead to better traffic management.

During the discussion, it was shared that Pinecrest has no current transportation plan and Cutler Bay's downtown has zoning density up to 250 units per acre. That figure is significantly greater than the amount allotted in Palmetto Bay's Downtown code.

Palmetto Bay will continue to work within the framework of smart growth along the transit corridor and towards the achievement of our transportation master plan. We will continue to meet with our neighboring cities and establish a transportation coalition to work through the traffic issues all of our cities face and collaborate on future traffic projects. We will continue to keep you informed!

SMART Plan Update: Following a meeting with the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works on January 27, recent updates were made to the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit "SMART" Plan. Update on Miami-Dade County's Pilot Project for Intersection of Old Cutler Road & SW 136 Street:  The Village has re-installed temporary speed humps on Farmer Road between SW 136 Street and Old Cutler Road to remain in place through the 90 period of the County's pilot project  that began on Jan. 31.  This is expected to lessen speeding on Farmer Road. The Miami-Dade County's Department of Transportation and Public Works  pilot project restricts northbound left turns at the intersection of Old Cutler Road and SW 136 Street.
