32nd Ward Newsletter
February 17, 2017

This weekend will be warm, but the Chicago Police would like to remind everyone to keep windows closed and secured when you are not at home.

At the Wednesday night 1434 CAPS meeting, officers detailed some of the recent crime activity in the ward and stressed the need to remove all of your belongings from your vehicle. Three-fourths of the thefts in the beat were from vehicles. 14th District officers did a proactive sweep around Wicker Park and Bucktown. They found dozens of vehicles with belongings left in sight. At another CAPS meeting last night, officers informed residents that CPD has been actively monitoring scrap yards for catalytic converters removed during a rash of thefts across the city. The most common approach to this theft is to use a van with a side door parked next to a vehicle (typically higher suspension vehicles) and cut off a converter within seconds. Please call police on anything that looks suspicious including people "casing" vehicles.

We'll have more of these neighborhood watch signs in the ward office soon so you can grab a few for free.

If your block does not already have one, set up a community block group. Get to know your neighbors and work together to keep your block safe.

Have a nice weekend,

Scott Waguespack

Chicago Progressive Reform Caucus- City needs leadership on police reforms

"If the goal is to build public trust in the police department and criminal justice system at large, we can't allow this reform process to be moved forward in a disorganized, piecemeal way. Clarity and real leadership are needed in addressing this long-running crisis."
