Burrito Breakfast aids Miracle League

The Sunday Super Bowl burrito breakfast - organized by Guys' Night Out and supported by Faith Lutheran Scouts and the Men's Breakfast Group - produced $364 in support of the Kiwanis Miracle League in Des Moines. All donations for the breakfast went to the Miracle League, a program that makes the enjoyment of baseball teams and games available to disabled children and their families. Costs of the food were covered by the men's groups and the Scouts helped in service and table maintenance. Thanks to all.

Family Promise: We Need Your Help!

family promis Faith will be hosting homeless families in the Gathering House the week of March 12 - 18. Please consider helping by serving as hosts for an evening dinner or overnight stay. We have dedicated volunteers, but need more people willing to serve with this ministry going forward. To be an evening or overnight host could not be easier, yet is an essential role in this ministry serving the less fortunate. If you're a first-time volunteer, you'll be given full instructions on this easy-to-do service. Can you help?

Signup for volunteers will begin the weekend of February 18th. Look for the table in the Commons. Please note: if you have not previously done so, adult volunteers for evening or overnight hosting will be asked to sign a consent for a background check which will be done by Julie Crane. This is a new requirement by the Des Moines Area Family Promise Board. If you have any questions about the volunteer roles, please feel free to contact Bob at [email protected], or Lynnette at [email protected]. Thank you!

Lutheran Day on the Hill

Join LSI and the three Iowa synods of the ELCA for Lutheran Day on the Hill in Des Moines on Tuesday, February 21, 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Last year the only legislation seeking to assist refugees across the entire country was passed in our state-in large part due to our advocacy. This day is essential for giving voice to those who are not heard, for seeking social justice and for empowering people to exercise their right and responsibility to be part of the legislative process. Register here: http://lsiowa.org/support/advocate/lutheran-day-on-the-hill/ or contact Pastor Sarah for more information.

Evening of Enlightenment at the Sikh Temple

If you enjoyed the adult education class presented by members of the West Des Moines Sikh temple, please consider coming for an evening of teaching and fellowship Friday February 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at West Des Moines Gurudwara, 1115 Walnut Street. This event seeks to help the public appreciate the Sikh religion. For more information contact JJ Kapur at [email protected].

March 5th is The 15th Annual Silent Auction & Spaghetti Lunch Fundraiser

Mark your calendars and join us for our annual mission trip fundraising event for the youth and adults traveling to the Grand Canyon Synod in June. We are excited to join over 15 other congregations of the Southeastern Iowa Synod as we journey together for a learning/service trip with our partners in the Grand Canyon Synod.

Members of Faith Lutheran Church can help support our young people through prayer, and participating in the Annual Silent Auction and Spaghetti Lunch on March 5. We need your help! Part of what makes our auction so successful is the willingness of the congregation to donate items to be auctioned. Woodwork, art, skilled labor and gift certificates are just a few ideas for donation. Prayerfully consider how your passions and gifts can bless our youth ministry by donating new or like-new items and/or services to the auction. Forms are available on the youth bulletin board in the entryway and can be dropped off in the church office. All donations are due by February 22. Contact Jake Bouma with any questions ( [email protected] ). Thank you for your continued support.

Communion Class

The pastors will host a communion class for both parents and children on Saturday, March 4, from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  Please contact the church office if you feel your child is ready to learn the full sacrament of holy communion.  A recognition of their first communion will occur during worship on Sunday, March 5. If you cannot attend this class, you do not  have to wait until next year for your child to partake in holy communion.  You are welcome to contact the pastors at any time you feel your child is ready to take the sacrament.

Matthew 25 Continues Support for Children Family Urban Movement (CFUM)

Matthew 25 supports many causes having to do with hunger in the Des Moines area. One of our biggest projects is supporting CFUM Supper Club at Trinity Methodist Church in Des Moines. On Saturday, March 4, and Saturday April 15, we'll be serving meals to approximately 40 people at Trinity. We need volunteers to help set up and serve these meals from 4:00-6:00 p.m., on these two days. This would be a rewarding experience for adults and older children (middle school and high school). If you'd like to volunteer on either or both of these days, please contact Linda Johnson at 244-3078 (home), 418-8203 (cell) or [email protected].

Faith Book Club meets the third Tuesday of the month. All are welcome! Please contact Sara Broadrick at [email protected] or 515-528-6881 for more information or to be added to the email distribution list.
