Dear Friends,
What a great week we had! Catholic Schools Week 2017 has come and gone and the teachers and students at Assumption made the best of this annual celebration of Catholic education.

Monday was marked with a kickoff assembly and the celebration of our students successes inside and out of the classroom. We also welcomed several parents to speak about their interesting careers. Thank you to Prof. Alberda for sharing her experience in politics, Mr. Glassman explained the work of a biblical archaeologists, and Mrs. Meath gave us a glimpse into the world of fashion.
On Wednesday our Buddy Day was jam packed. Students in all grades gathered together to create prayer hearts, which now cover the walls of our halls and will remain through the month of February. We also enjoyed our ice cream social after lunch. Thank you to the HSA for treating all teachers to a "Souper" lunch.

On Thursday, we all wore red to show our support for heart health. The America Heart Association was here to teach about healthy heart decisions and explain our Jump Rope for Heart service project. We also had some fun learning about chemistry by making GAK!

Father Cipriani and the third grade treated us to a wonderful Mass on Friday. Close to 100 grandparents and special friends were on hand to experience the Mass and visit our classrooms.
The Word must be getting out about the great community we have at Assumption. Today we capped off Catholic Schools Week with our annual Open House. We welcomed close to 25 families with over 30 children that are interested in joining the Assumption family!
I hope your children enjoyed the week as much as we enjoyed planning it. Thank you for your continued support as we grow and thrive as a faithful community of learners.

2017-18 Bishop Scholarship Fund Applications
BSF Application Process is Ongoing
All families should have received a registration packet for next year. Included in that packet was the application for the Bishop's Scholarship Fund.
Any family seeking financial assistance of any kind must complete the paper application and the online FACTS financial needs assessment to be considered for financial assistance in 2017-2018.
Financial assistance is granted on a yearly basis.
No BSF application can be submitted for consideration without a signature from the school principal certifying that the students have been accepted and enrolled at the school and the $200 fee has been paid.
The deadline for the BSF application is April 1. Notification of awards will begin on April 15. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.
Assumption will host a financial assistance night to help with the application process later in February.

Souper Bowl Canned Soup Drive Sets a New Record
PK3 Collects 1160 Cans of Soup for Homeless Veterans
Congratulations to Mrs. Riehl, Mrs. Loreng, and the entire pre-kindergarten 3 class for collecting and donating 1160 cans of soup to Homes for the Brave!
This is the most soup Assumption has ever collected and according to Homes for the Brave, this is the single largest donation of soup they have ever received.
Homes for the Brave provides emergency housing and job placement and training for homeless veterans in the Bridgeport area.

Clarification
Items Purchased Through Dennis Uniform can be Worn During the School Day
The official school uniform is outlined on our website, click here for a link to the uniform section of the homepage. Below are some guidelines to remind you of the uniform expectations.
Sweatshirts
Only the 8th grade has permission to wear hooded sweatshirts as part of the official uniform.
All other students may wear their spirit wear sweatshirts to school, but they will be asked to take them off during the school day. There are several options available through Dennis Uniform if your child is cold in the traditional uniform during the day.
On dress uniform days girls can wear the cardigan sweater and boys can wear the sweater or sweater vest over their shirt and tie. Both boys and girls can wear the long sleeve or fleece vest throughout the day.
Shoes and Sneakers
Casual shoes such as loafers, boat shoes, Mary Janes, or lace up dress shoes are to be worn on dress uniform days. Boots or sneakers are not acceptable!
Modest sneakers are to be worn on gym days. Sneakers should be of a solid color, preferably black, white, blue, or gray. Bright, flashy, neon, or light up sneakers are not permitted.
Gym Uniform
During the colder months students must wear the sweatpants for gym days. Stunts should also wear the gray gym shirt with the logo on gym days. Should they choose to wear the gray sweatshirt, the official tee shirt should be work underneath.
The tie dyed spirit wear shirt is not acceptable for gym days. Only the pink breast cancer shirt may be worn as an alternative to the official gray tee shirt.
Spirit Wear
Spirit wear can be ONLY worn to school with an official dress down pass or on designated Spirit Wear Days.
Please make every effort to acquire the proper uniforms through Dennis Uniform or the school uniform store. Contact the HSA at [email protected] to inquire about uniform store access.

Virtus Registration and Training
All Adult volunteers must be Virtus Trained
To register with Virtus and be eligible to volunteer, coach, or chaperone in school or at a school sponsored event you must register with Virtus, complete a training and agree to a background check.
