March is "Cuddle Up & Read" month at St. David's! It's time to read, read and read some more. We dedicate March to reading in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd and Read Across America sponsored by the National Education Association. We believe that reading is very important in early childhood development. According to research, children need to be exposed to thousands of words in order to develop a speaking, reading and writing vocabulary. It's never too early to start reading and talking to your child! Use this month to increase your child's vocabulary by striving to read at least one book a day to your child. Choose old favorites to reread or visit the library and try some new authors. Perhaps you have a family member that never knows what to buy your child as a gift, how about suggesting a magazine subscription. Magazines are colorful and attractive to children. In addition, if you go "old school" it comes in the mail. They get the chance to have something delivered and it sparks interest in reading! It's a win-win for everyone! Keep track of all the books you read on our special Book Log. Once your child has read 10 books, have him or her return the book to us for a special surprise. Let's all work together to make sure we read, read and read some more in March and every month moving forward!
