Local Subcontractors Meet to Discuss BHS Revitalization Process
|
While the design phase for the Baraboo High School Revitalization Project progresses, we are also approaching the bidding process.
CG Schmidt, the district's consultant and construction manager, met with local subcontractors Feb. 21, 2017, at BHS to discuss local subcontractor involvement and to answer any questions they might have.
Highlights from the evening:

Subcontractor bids will be requested across ALL work categories to complete the projects at Baraboo High School.
-
The District is committed to breaking bid packages into smaller manageable pieces for local subs and partnering smaller firms with larger firms as necessary to complete the work.
-
The BHS Revitalization is a 40-year plan; the design process is taking into account current and future needs to make sure the school is able to effectively serve its students for decades to come.

The District highly encourages local involvement and partnering with community businesses: this is your community and your school!
As part of CG Schmidt's standard practices, all firms need to be pre-qualified with their Risk Management Department. If any local subcontractors or businesses are interested in bidding on the projects, please email [email protected] to start the pre-qualification process. Firms will then be added to CG Schmidt's bidders list.

BHS Students Have Mad Skills!
|
 Baraboo High School's SkillsUSA students have had several successes in the past couple months, including have two students place in the top 3 in different competitions.
Noah Tomte and Nick Freed have both placed first in the "CO2 Dragster" competition.
The District Competition was held at Oregon High School in December and the Region competition was at Southwest Technical College in January.

JYMS Horn Students Have Master Class
|
 JYMS invited
horn professor and player Dr. Bruce Atwell to provide a lesson to 6, 7 and 8 grade band students on Feb. 21. The horn students worked with Dr. Atwell on tone, pitch, and even got to learn a big of the Star Wars theme song!

GLW Travels the Globe for Math & Tech Night
|
GLW and West held a Math & Technology Night on Feb. 16.
The theme was "Around the Globe." Each classroom was a different country. As the students entered the school, they were given a passport. Their passports were stamped as they traveled from "country" to "country."
Students and their families enjoyed some freshly popped popcorn as they traveled around the world and engaged in different math- and tech-related games.
Approximately 70 students attended with their families, and even some former and future students!

West Students Get Fancy for Fine Dining Day
|
 The West Kindergarten Center hosted its second annual Fine Dining Day on February 14.
Students dressed up for this special occasion. The gym was beautifully decorated including placements, positive messages on the milk cartons, special lighting and music playing in the background.
A special menu was included for the students, and we had some parents join the event as well. All staff placed a larger emphasis on using good manners and showing kindness to others within this event with our students.
A big thank you to West support staff members:
Laurie Willhouse, Sandy Busche, Kathy Bray and Sharon Prochnow, for coordinating many of the specific details and even sharing some of the treats.

Spring Coaches Meet to Negotiate Gym Space
|
Our spring coaches met Feb. 21 to negotiate gym space.
With Wisconsin springs, practices can't always be held outside because we never know if the weather will be 60+ degrees (like Monday through Wednesday of this week!) or freezing cold with snow and sleet (like tonight's forecast!).
Hang in there TBirds; spring will eventually come and practices can be moved outside.
In the meantime, thank you coaches for meeting to make sure all sports get equal practice time!

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS: JYMS Partners with Baraboo Food Pantry
|
Jack Young Middle School's Peanut Butter Lunch Bunch is partnering with the Baraboo Food Pantry to collect donations to be distributed to Baraboo School District families in need over spring break.
Many children do not have the food they need, especially when resources are not available when schools are closed.
Donations can be dropped off at the Baraboo Food Pantry. Checks can be made to the Baraboo Food Pantry. See below for a list of items in need.

BHS Named Pacesetter in Advanced Placement

 Congratulations, Baraboo High School!
BHS was recognized by the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council (WAPAC) as a Pacesetter school in Advanced Placement (AP).
This award recognizes access and excellence regarding AP.
WAPAC says, "Pacesetter schools have provided impressive student access to AP courses and posted excellent AP exam results."

the Distinguished Elementary Teacher Award (DETA) programs for the 2016-'17 school year.
Nominations may be made by a teacher colleague, an administrator, a parent of a student or a current or former student.

Madison College's Scholars of Promise
|
Attention BHS Juniors and Seniors!
Deadline is approaching for the Scholars of Promise scholarship from Madison College.
This scholarship helps motivated low-income students who want to attend college but aren't able to pay for it by providing funding.
Are you eligible? You must:
* Maintain at least 80 percent attendance in your senior year at BHS
* Carry a minimum of a 2.25 GPA
* Submit ACT or Accuplacer placement test scores by April 1 of your senior year
* Apply to a Madison College degree program by April 1 of your senior year
* Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 of your senior year. You must be eligible for both federal and state financial aid and your expected family contribution must be $3,000 or less.
Juniors, complete and return the SCHOLARS OF PROMISE ONLINE INTEREST FORM before the end of your junior year. You are also encouraged to take the ACT this year.
Seniors, in addition to our placement tests, FAFSA and degree application, you must submit your SCHOLARS OF PROMISE ONLINE INTEREST FORM no later than APRIL 1.

The Baraboo High School Chess Club and the Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation have teamed up to host a Chess Tournament on
March 4th, 2017. Online registration is open now.. The tournament will take place at the Baraboo High School and be open to all K12 Students in Wisconsin. There will be a division for anyone in grade Kindergarten - 8th grade (K8) and a division for anyone in grades Kindergarten - 12th grade. (K12). To preregister for the price of $10 please go to
