Draft General Plan Workshops This Week
Planning has played a vital role in the City of Folsom, and has shaped the vibrant, family-oriented community we know today. As mandated by state law, California cities must have a General Plan that outlines land use and development policies, objectives and standards. The City of Folsom is currently updating its General Plan- a blueprint for how the City will deal with a changing world over the next 20 years. Two workshops are planned this week, and community members are encouraged to attend and provide comments.

Historic District Commission Workshop

Planning Commission Workshop

A Preliminary Public Review Draft of the General Plan is available at www.Folsom2035.com. Future meeting dates are available on the City's website.
Volunteers Help Construct New Bike/Pedestrian Bridge
A group of 20 dedicated community volunteers from Dokken Engineering and the Friends of the Folsom Parkways held a work party on Saturday, February 4 to build the Natomas Ditch Bridge along Folsom's recreational trail system. Volunteers ranging in age from 10 to 70 years worked together to construct the 35-foot-long wooden bridge in just three hours.
The bridge - so named because it spans the Natomas Ditch canal - connects two existing trail segments along the 16-mile Humbug-Willow Creek Trail in The Parkway near Bowen Drive and Smith Way. A new trail segment between the new bridge and existing trail in Empire Ranch will be constructed this summer, making an important link from the Parkway trails to those in Empire Ranch.
Folsom's 47 miles of trails help to create a healthy community by preserving natural resources and providing recreational opportunities for all ages. Find a trail map here or pick one up at 48 Natoma Senior and Arts Center (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Trends in the 3D Printing Industry
3D printing - the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from digital designs - is an emerging technology that will be central to advances in fields such as manufacturing, medicine, and space colonization.
Learn more about this expanding field at a presentation hosted by the Folsom Public Library on Saturday, February 18 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Learn from industry veteran Jeramie Ivie about the 3D printing industry, new technologies and futuristic applications that are making headlines.
The Folsom Public Library is home to a 3D printing lab, and the Lab's six 3D printers are available every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. In the first year of operation, more than 700 people have visited the Lab -printing everything from household objects to homework assignments. The Lab was made possible by grant funding from the Intel Foundation. Thanks to many public donations of the plastic filament needed to print 3D objects, printing remains free to the public. Plastic filament donations are always welcome.
