Weekly Chimes

Good morning, my dear friends and family,

The year is running away and I'm just trying to keep up! It seems that everything has speeded up to move at this "Twitter" pace. I'm very thankful for the regularity of a weekly schedule that is grounded in Sunday worship and weekday patterns for study and eating together as a parish family. It keeps me from being completely caught up and lost.

Last Sunday was a particular blessing. After having been sick for about 10 days, it was life-giving to be able to preach and be among you all. I am thankful for your prayers and support and your generous welcome I always feel.

This Sunday I will be teaching a session in the Adult Forum on Matthew's Gospel. My focus will be how this particular gospel that we are hearing for 2017 focuses us on how to be an effective, faithful community. Matthew has often been the favorite of the institutional Church, while less attractive to the marginalized. It also is more "anti-Jewish" sounding and we will talk about why that might be, and what we can do about that. Join me in the Parish Hall at 9:30. There are also very good offerings with Mary Poteet's video series in the Music Room, and Kipper DeGavre's session on "What Anglicans believe" in the Library. You don't lack options! Don't forget also... J2A parents will be meeting with me after the 10:30 services in Alfriend House.

Tonight our teaching from 7-8:00 is on healing prayers. If you want more understanding of a Christian theology of healing and wholeness join us. Last week, Fr. Nigel Mumford from Galilee gave us an excellent introduction and tonight a panel of clergy and nurses plan to follow up. I will do some teaching from one of our clergy friends who laid a solid foundation about 15 years ago at ODEC, the Rev. Anne Brower, M.D. As a recognized medical doctor who became a priest, she had a particular set of knowledge that she crafted into good theology. I will be joined by at least four of our clergy and two or three of our Parish Nurses. There will be time for Q&A and discussion. We have a number of people in our parish who are desirous of your prayer support for their healing, so it is always good to deepen our understanding of healing.

Friday evening and Saturday until mid-afternoon, the vestry is holding our annual retreat. Please keep us in your prayers for that as well!

I'm in the Gathering and Ashley is in the Church for Sunday. See you soon!
Blessings always.
