Become a DOEE FrogWatch Chapter Volunteer
Thursday, March 16 from 6 - 8 PM at Temple Sinai
Did you know there are 14 species of frogs and toads in the District and that each can be recognized by their unique calls made during the spring and summer? Join the Temple Sinai Green Team and DOEE fish and wildlife biologists to learn more about your amphibian neighbors and contribute to conservation in your community by becoming a DOEE FrogWatch Chapter Volunteer!

The first two hours of this training is classroom- and the final half hour will take place in the field at the nearby Broad Branch Stream to practice skills learned during the indoor portion.  The workshop is free but space is limited and registration is required. Participants aged 10 and up are welcomed; minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Project Mensch Supports Highland Elementary School 
Saturday, April 22 from Noon - 2 PM
Help us host Highland Elementary School's 2nd annual Community Health Fair.  We hope to recruit volunteers with expertise who can:
  • lead cooking demonstrations about healthy meal preparation and how to make your own baby food
  • teach a Zumba class for adults
  • teach a hip-hop dance class for kids
  • lead a discussion on bike safety
  • lead a workshop on indoor gardening
There is also need for volunteers to help with face painting and general support at the event. Spanish speakers will be especially helpful! Please contact Elizabeth Roos ( esroos@verizon.net) if you (or someone you know) can provide one of the above services or activities or if you have suggestions for other programs that would be fun and pertinent to a health/wellness fair. "Disturbing the Peace" is a documentary about Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters who have laid down their weapons and come together to pursue peace. Anat Hoffman will discuss the most recent developments on segregation and exclusion of women in Israel as a result of increased demands for more modesty in the public sphere in order to adjust to religious standards. The exclusion of women "for God's sake" has become a litmus test for the infiltration of ultra-Orthodox norms into state definitions of religious requirements in the public sphere and exclusion and looks at the remaining challenges in this area.Hoffman is one of Israel's leading human rights activists working toward gender, religious, racial and ethnic equality.
