NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM THE DESK OF
STATE REP CECIL BELL, JR.

Good morning friends,

On January 10th I was sworn in, again, as your State Representative.  We have been busy in Austin working on bills that represent you, our constituents.  I was honored to be appointed as  Vice-Chair of the Land and Resource Management Committee.  I'm excited about this position and look forward to serving in this new capacity.

Please feel free to contact me any time  you have any questions or concerns about my work in the House.  I hope to see you soon!

Your Friend,

From the Houston Chronicle:

Nearly a dozen Republican state lawmakers, mostly from rural and suburban districts, filed a flurry of bills Tuesday aiming to "derail" plans for a privately-funded high-speed rail line in Texas. The 18 bills, nine each in the Texas Senate and Texas House, aim to limit Texas Central Partners' ability to develop a Houston-to-Dallas line supported by both metro areas, but strongly opposed by many rural landowners and elected officials.

It was my honor to have been picked by one of your students as the House member to research for their Texas history assignment. Thank you for including a picture of the great poster drawn to display the information they found while pursuing this fun and educational project.

Feature Headline

Thank you for allowing me to speak to the students and educators at the SACOT Conference about the importance of Career & Technology and specifically about the need to move Applied Technologies to CTE designation within the education code. Information and Technology is one of the 9 drivers identified within the Texas economy and now is clearly an intricate component of every aspect of the Texas economy.
