New York Times Best-selling Author Greg Iles to Host FREE Meet and Greet at Central Library

One of Memphis Public Library's most popular authors is coming to the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave.). New York Times bestselling author Greg Iles, who penned Natchez Burning, The Bone Tree and most recently Mississippi Blood, will talk to customers about his work at a free meet & greet and book signing at noon - 2 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017.

After a horrific car accident in 2011, Iles refocused his life and set to work on the Natchez trilogy-his magnum opus. He's now delivered the culmination to this astonishing masterpiece in Mississippi Blood (William Morrow, On Sale: 3/21/2017, ISBN 13: 9780062311153, $28.99). With Natchez Burning and The Bone Tree, Iles captured the hearts of critics, peers and readers through the story of Penn Cage, his father Tom Cage and the tragic story of Viola Turner. The endgame is at hand for Penn Cage and the enemies working to destroy him in this exhilarating final volume in the epic Natchez Burning trilogy-Greg Iles' bold and ambitious story of blood and honor, violence and revenge that explores how the sins of the past continue to haunt the present.

Library customers who feel stuck in the Twilight Zone of technology can breathe easier, thanks to Memphis Public Library's free monthly computer classes. Whether customers want to keep up with the grandkids or simply learn a new device, these "user-friendly" classes cover a variety of topics ranging from computer and Internet basics to email usage, Excel and more! The best part? Technology - computers, i-pads, and other gadgets - is provided!

"The Library is fulling a unique need in the community," commented Damone Virgilio, staff development manager and course instructor. "We provide a basic level of instruction designed for people who have little to no understanding of computers and digital devices. And, we purposely limit the amount of material we cover in each session so that leaners can process the information and not become overwhelmed."

Generic Children Reading IMG
It's never too early to discover the joys of reading with a child. DiscoverREAD is an initiative coming to Memphis Public Libraries that gives parents and caregivers the tools they need to build early literacy skills in youth from birth to age five. But that's not all! Designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics' Universal Parenting Place, this hands-on model conjoins reading, singing, playing, talking and writing to support learning and increased parental involvement and engagement.

Thanks to the Memphis Library Foundation and Friends of the Library, several new DiscoverREAD Early Literacy Centers are coming to Memphis Public Libraries, starting with the DiscoverREAD Grand Opening at Cornelia Crenshaw Library (531 Vance Ave.) at 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

Exciting programs and educational resources will be available to parents and their kids for free!
