Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that blocks access to a device or data until a ransom is paid. When a device is infected with ransomware, some type of encryption is applied, effectively locking you out of your files or your device.

- Avoid opening attachments that look suspicious.
- Think twice before clicking.
- Use Familiar Websites. Use only trusted sites. Pay attention to the website's URL.
- If you find an unattended USB drive, do NOT plug it into your computer.
- In the event a suspicious process is spotted on your computer, contact Information Security staff immediately.
