The Voice
February/March 2017
From the Executive Director

Time passes so quickly and I can hardly believe that I recently celebrated my 12th year of service with the  Thurman Brisben Center!

I have not only had the extreme privilege of working with those in our comm unity experiencing homelessness, but  also the privilege of witnessing firsthand the  many silent heroes in our community who give their time and talent  every day to those in greatest need. We are touched by so many. From our Meal Pr ogram volunteers to our job  readiness volunteers and those who provide direct services to our clients -- so much happens that we want to share  with you.

Over the next several weeks we will be posting interesting stories, short video clips a nd  information on our Facebook page -- www.facebook.com/thebrisbencenter. You can keep up  with our latest news and g et a close look inside Brisben by following us on Fac ebook! So here is
my challenge -- like and follow us on Facebook and help us share our amazing story!

Together we can make a difference.

Staff Spotlight

Meet Joe, Brisben's new Coordinator of Volunteers. If you recently contacted Brisben about volunteering, by phone or by email at [email protected], you likely have heard from Joe. He works hard to match would-be volunteers and volunteer groups to the ongoing needs of our residents and the center.

Engaging our many talented volunteers is an ongoing challenge because Brisben is blessed with hundreds of committed volunteers, individuals and organizations. New volunteers contact us weekly. Thanks Joe, for your hard work!

Congratulations!

We celebrate with former residents Trina, De'Angelo, and Trina's sons as they happily regain their own housing!
Spotlight on Volunteers
Jessica

Jessica is a soldier in the U.S. Army. Between her current assignment and her next duty station, she spends Tuesdays and Fridays preparing food and leading resident helpers in fixing and serving lunch to everyone at Brisben. Thank you Jessica for making a difference! Want to know what surprised Jessica most about volunteering? Visit www.brisbencenter.org to watch her video.

DaVita Park Hill Dialysis

DaVita Park Hill Dialysis facility manager, Amy Lane, and her administrative assistant, Stacy, on February 8 delivered a generous contribution on behalf of the local DaVita team and DaVita Healthcare Partners. Thank you DaVita from everyone here at Brisben for being part of the amazing Brisben story!

Live to Learn

Live-to-Learn Homeschoolers in February collected and donated much-needed scarves to help keep our residents warm during the winter months. Led by Tina, this generous group of young learners also took a tour of Brisben.

Board Members

Members of the Brisben General Board of Representatives, part of the Brisben leadership team, served a wonderful pork chop, potatoes and gravy dinner to our hungry residents on February 7.
