Many of you are aware of, and curious, about the journey of simplicity Karen and I are on. Some of our thinking about minimizing our possessions came out of viewing a film called 'Minimalism: A Documentary about Important Things."
Well, place on your calendar May 7th at 5pm, because Karen and I will be hosting a viewing of this documentary with a Q and A discussion afterward.
Getting rid of the possessions we have become attached to was not the easiest thing, and I know many of you struggle with this. Perhaps some of you will join us on this journey. So, plan on coming May 7th at 5pm.
     Peace,
     Chris

The TOTH Elders Group will meet on Monday morning, February 27 in Sherrill Hall at 10:30. The program will be presented by members of the Los Alamos Falls Coalition and will include a short video. Refreshments will be served.
The Los Alamos Falls Coalition is a group of local service providers who received training on the program "Remembering When" - a fire and falls prevention effort with seniors in mind. They are committed to providing community education and in-home safety assessment visits to try to bring down the rate of senior falls in our community. In 2015, Los Alamos County had the second highest rate of senior falls in the state. The Health Dept. is partnering with the Coalition for this initiative. The LARSO (Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization), Aspen Ridge/Sombrillo, Home Instead, LA County Fire Dept., Los Alamos Medical Center and others are part of the Coalition. The members who will present are Ken Hendricks from Home Instead, Cynthia Goldblatt from Aspen Ridge/Sombrillo, and Pauline Schneider from LARSO.

DIOCESE OF THE RIO GRANDE

Wild Lent: A Retreat for Women and Men, March 24-26
All women & men of the Diocese are invited to a time for quiet
reflection, fellowship, and sharing time in the beauty of the Big Bend area of our Diocese.
Bishop Michael Vono, the Rev. Paul Moore, and others will share reflections on Matthew 4 during Wild Lent on March 24-26, 2017 in Alpine, TX. This event is an invitation to look at the socio- and eco-logical issues of our ministries in light of Jesus' time in the wilderness, and consider how we can make a difference where we are.
There is an optional Big Bend National Park tour on Friday morning. We'll carpool through part of the Big Bend National Park (entry fees apply) for a time of quiet reflection in landscape very similar to the Judean wilderness. This will offer an inspirational introduction to the weekend's talks. Afterward, we will join the retreat leadership and members of local communities for sharing worship and conversations about how we can find common ground and work together for the good of all.
The main part of the retreat begins March 24 at St. James' Church in Alpine with dinner at 6PM. The first presentation will follow. The retreat concludes after Sunday services on March 26. Retreat registration is $25, which covers lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday. Registration info is available on the Women's Ministry website ( www.VarietiesOfGifts.blogspot.com) or you can register online at www.WildLent.eventsbot.com. This retreat is sponsored by the Women of the Diocese and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. A brochure is downloadable from the Women's Ministry website or at:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4P9SzRkJXCpY0k1REN5OFJjS28/view
Blocks of rooms have been reserved for March 23-26 at the Hampton Inn and at the historic Holland Hotel in Alpine, TX with special rates good through mid-February 2017. You are advised to reserve your room early! (Mention Diocesan Lent Retreat or Cindy Davis when making reservations.)
Looking forward to seeing women and men of all ages and from all corners of the diocese at this event. We know it's a long drive for some of us, but it is worth it in the inspiration you will gain from the beauty and speakers.  Contact Cindy Davis ( [email protected]) if you have questions.
